do make some keyframes in different frames

biped is said to not be supported.Physique and skin yes.
anyway, try with binary export, and rotate/scale..instead of matrix.
It could work.

mark bones and animations

still, it may not work.

I've tried loads of different options, including the ones you have noted. The actual Biped seems to be fine and not deformed at all, but the mesh over the top is still all screwy. I have frames in it and i think ive tried every single combo i think i can think of in the settings. This is a major problem and setback as im doing my game for my final year project at uni and time is running out does anyone know of and other exporters that support Physique? or maybe a plugin for max 5 that exports .dbo?

Any help really appreciated

Pete

OPTION A) (note if no luck, you may have to compile plugins your self..)

hmm....man, I think I was able to the export with a max6 trial (is available at discreet site, for free, full for 30 days, along with character studio 4.2) the biped character, weighted with physique. Was a model from other person. Actually I only intended to test the panda exporter.

There's also the Microsoft extras. Is a donwload you can find at microsoft, as isolate download(huge anyway, now it's bout 165 mb or so), but also you have the sdk...actually, these days I think the compiled plugins are finally available. Not sure though. In those Extras download for directx 9.

for dx 8.1b (maybe max 4.x supported, dont know if plugins are compiled.you'd need if not visual c or something) 39 mbs
http://download.microsoft.com/download/DirectX/extras/8.1b/W982KMeXP/EN-US/DX81b_SDK_Extras.exe

for max 3(extras of dx 8.0)
http://download.microsoft.com/download/winme/devp7/8.0/W9X2KMe/EN-US/D3DExport.exe

for max4 , dx extras of 8.1
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/dx-exp/8.1/W982KMeXP/EN-US/DX81SDK_extras_Direct3D.exe

hmm...and can't find now the extras download for dx9.0b...in theory, it should have the plugins for export for max 5. I suppose you use max 5...

OPTION B)

Pass me (I'll have to pm you first) the exported u3d file. I use Ultimate unwrap to convert that to directx8 animated file you should be able to use then.

What's an u3d file? Ultimate unwrap format. Is free. You download it and put the plugin that is inside the zip into your Max plugins folder. Restart max and then in Max "export" dialog you will be able to export as u3d. All this is only if you have Max 5 or 5.1. Better if have Max 5.1 and character studio 4.1

I rarely do something like this but seems you're in trouble with your uni project.

In fact, I have largely tested this method. Is likely sure to work.

I'll pm you now.

oh, the download of the u3d free plugin is at www.unwrap3d.com downloads section. It's called Max_extras, or something like that, and appears before the actual formats list to download (in Ultimate Unwrap (uv mapper convertor, the best I ever used) you can ad the formats you want, I think author did so to refrain from bloating it of unwanted formats. besides, so the formats get updated more often)

you know, download that. Put in max plugins folder. And mail your model animation in the u3d format, in a zip, with the textures you want to use ingame inside it (not a high res version, but the final ones to be used in your dark basic pro.) me with the address I'll put you in the pm.

Ill checkout the Max6 option and get abck to you. I tried exporting to u3d but max crashed, think the file was too big(lots of animation data from motion capture) ill get rid of some of it then try again

take in consideration u3d plugin is yet only for max 5.1 and cs 4.1 maybe it works with older. But for Max 6, much probably it does not work.In that case... it'd be a matter of keep trying with x exporters.

Got the trial of max 6 and exported it again with panda for max6, and the same thing happened, so maybe my computer is goosed. My flatmate is gonna try on his machine just as soon as he has finished the game of Generals he is playing

probably will keep giving the error. Biped (the weighting is supported;both physique and skin, is biped what is not supported) is not supported by Panda.Though I know with "binary" export and certain settings, it may work.

But the way maybe to do it for a character rigged with biped is export as FBX format (Max 6 has it by default) , import again as FBX into same max 6, and now, export as directx with panda.

Preliminary tests look good...............All hail Nazgul!!! Wow man that fixed it, thanx soooo much, once it was converted to Bones and Skin it exported fine!

Thanx again so much, now my final year project can go ahead(I spent literally about 10 hours yesterday looking at every permutation I could think of, with no luck).
