I am currently using Wings 3d for modeling and I like it very much but it has no animate function (or does it?). Anyways I was wondering if anyone knew of a good free animator that can import .3ds and export .3ds and .x?

If you are absolutely flat broke, even broke too much for Milkshape (which would be a better choice, as the god of RPG project coordination, RPGamer, uses it), you could to go http://www.caligari.com and check out a small link at the bottom called "trueSpace3.2 resources", basically caligari relased trueSpace 3 as freeware now. There is a good video series to get started at http://www.kidzonline.org/teachit/3D_DV.html#

Blender 3D is free and now has Python export scripts for the .X format. The learning curve is probably a beast, but it is a full featured modelling studio.

be aware that Anim8or is a great program, but there is currently NO way to export the animations in a format DBC/DBPro can understand!

Go Go Gadget DBPRO!

Version 4.3 has built in export capabilities for geometry and animation. I don't know about 3.2.
