Ok, i have a barrel model. everything is closed (it's a closed poly or w/e) and has a wooden texture, but when i load it in DP, it looks like a cheesy version of it and some little crevises i made aren't there and the texture isn't there, it's just all yellow. do i have to add a certain mapping to it or something?

Firstly .3DS is not really suitable for DBPro, convert it to .X first then try again. Once you have it converted, make sure that the texture it refers to is in the same directory as the .X model - a good idea to organise your models into folders otherwise things get messy.

Inside DBPro, you may have to reduce the specular level of the model, like SET OBJECT SPECULAR Obj,0.

i had the same problem. Textures dont want to work on .3ds files. I had the same exaqt problem. If you load it as a .x or .dbo it will work and run alot better.

Conv3DS is supplied with DBClassic, and it'd probably be supplied with the demo of DBClassic too . That's what I use, it's about the only converter I trust, and it's free (it should really have been distributed with DBPro too).

Which version? Discreet has a free official plugin for DirectX export for v5.1 and v6 of 3DSMAX.

By the way, what is up with Dark BASIC Pro's broken model support? .3ds doesn't work, .MD3 doesn't work, yet both are on the features list. The BSP compiler advertised as included in DBP is also just a Cartography plug-in which from all forum posts I have read doesn't work.

It's in the DirectX SDK, but yes, since DBPro doesn't need the SDK, it should be included with it.
