Hey all,
I was thinking the other day that all I ever do on these forums is ask questions so I decided to take one of my simple 2-d games and break it down into steps and put it in a tut. I've just started drafting out my tut(which for once isn't going to tell you how to make your 100th pong game .) I don't want to spend ages making a tut if no-ones going to read it so if you are in need of something like this just show your interest. It will include

@keeping bitmaps simple

@loading sprites

@moving sprites

@moving sprites together and seperately

@VERY simple a.i.

@collision detection

@loading and playing sounds

@putting it all together

I may include further chapters as I go on and if anough people register their interest a .zip file with all the nessecery bitmaps,sounds,etc.

Yeah sounds great. I know when I was more active on the forum I spent most of my time trying to explain a lot of that stuff, but never had the time to build a tutorial. Good luck.

Should be a big help to a lot newbs out there

I was going to say go over to DBHeaven and look at their tutorials, but it would appear that the site is down or no longer exists...

When did that happen???

Oh well, just make sure that tutorials are organized in a sequential fassion and make them easy to navigate through. There's nothing worse than a tutorial page that's a pain in the @SS to get around in. You end up spending more time trying to find the tutorial than reading it, LOL.

Hey again sorry for not posting for a while. The tutorials going great I'm about 3/4 done and its a lot easier to explain then I thought it would be. BTW when I'm finished I'll be looking for a noob or two to read through it and see what they think of it so if any of you want to do that just shout.

Edit: Out of the people who are interested in this tut how many are willing to download it when its done and how many would prefer it to be posted on the forum(bearing in mind that its gonna be about 20 pages when finished.) Please tell me so I know wheather or not I have to do a lite version for here.

Code Monkey.... Please feel free to post your tutorial. I am sure that people here would be happy to have more of them as they are a bit thin on the ground.

IMHO I would think that this forum would have a special area for user tutorials, as most language boards do, but regardless of that, it would help newcomers to the language.

What may be a good idea is to post a set of tutorials (as in a list) so that they are not duplicated.

I think I will do that now on this thread.

Good luck with your tutorial.

Thanks, to be honest your finished game looked a hell of alot better than mine anyway but hopefully I'm gonna get a web page up and running today so when its done I can put my tut on there. Thanks again for the encouraging words.

Thanks its almost finished, I keep doing bits on it so it shouldn't be too long now. I'm going to stop using this thread now so if you want any more info about the tut look at the thread called user listings for 2004 by reaperman.
