Heh, I know it's tempting...

I got an e-mail last week...was obviously a scam. They said my account had been suspended due to "unauthorized access", and that details were included in the attached "details.zip" file.

Lol. Indeed.

I was one-click shy of a double click on an email with an attachment (which turned out to be one of the latest worms, the nasty one with file deletion stuff in it) Anyway, the email sender's name and the title were so coincidentially spot-on that I almost double clicked it, but stopped myself 1 click in....

the sender was: FirstNameLastInitial which exactly matched one of my close friends!

the subject title was: "Your Software" DUH, I am a sw developer by day (and night)

the only thing that stopped me was the "@comcast.com" part. My friend is on another isp.

close call.

I've gotten six of those "style" emails in the past few weeks. They all come from respectable servers and some were addressed from the webmaster of those domains (i.e yahoo, hotmail, aol, and some smaller but respectable ones). They all were very short, like "here is the info", "sorry about that", etc etc. They also all had attachments, none of which I opened. All the attachments were named differently, but were all the exact same size. Obviously it's the same person doing this. I'm thinking of taking a crap machine or a machine that needs a good re-format and opening one of the attachments, just so I can investigate what they do.

Anyone else have similar happenings occur?
