Getting a DSL line how fast can dsl go? upto or above 6mb/s? i only want this so i can host my own website and stop sharing a connection with my dad.

Dunno about DSL, but my local cable company goes up to 36mbits apparently. For a business licence that is. Can't imagine that would be cheap though. Oh, and you can have two lines too. So total of 72mbits I assume. Arf.

Well that dosnt help me i think i'll call SBC see if i can get my own little line in my room muwahahahaha i have a unused phone line so might as well get some nice fast DSL! muwahahaha

dsl anywhere from 60-90 KiloBYTES per sec
cable (mine) 350-500 KiloBYTES per sec
1 meg = 1024 kiloBYTES

(please don't confuse the usual dsl adds that say 384 Kbps per sec!! yadda....that is kiloBITS - there are 8 bits in a byte, do the math)

I have DSL (yaaahOOOOOOOOooo) and it runs and about 1 meg\second.

You know, when i see an old lady slip and fall on the side walk, my first instinct is to luagh, but then i think, what if i where an ant? and she fell on me, it just doesn't seem so funny anymore.

yeah right! LOL Unless you have an above average package there is no way you are pulling down 1 meg\second. Let's assume you can pull down 1meg\sec, how much do you pay per month in $$??

I pay $40\month and can pull down 1meg\2-3 seconds.

just curious.

i pull 350k most of the time and is cable
i pay $39.99 a month

but 1meg a sec on dsl. BULL $h1T.

Cable is soooo much better. Besides, I used to have SBC Yahoo... hated it. Go with cable, youll thank yourself in the end.

Besides, Cable is L33T3R th4n L33T.

i would stick with cable but there is no way to get my dad to increase the speed so i figgure i'll get DSL plus he'll be complaining to me if all the bandwith is always used heh...with my cable right now i get 100-208kb/s

okay, get a boat, go out to the middle of the pacific ocean, go down in one of those personal subs and set up a water proof server. Then, just cut (with some very big sissors) the fiber optic cable that goes to america and plug your server in some how. There you go. Now you have a 512 Tbps connection



(okay, so thats a load of bs)

Why not move to south korea where a t1 internet connection is cheaper than a phone line.

depends apon your company... the Q-West up in town over here has a dsl line that reaches the speeds almost of a t1 line . Of course thats not very cheap stuff but cheaper then a t1 line. Their smallest package runs extremly fast also... unfortunetly I live 30 miles out of town .

P.S. I know all this becuase my dad works for Q-West and sets up these lines... so0o0o movin into town when i get a job...

Hmm, I've got the premium package from Charter Communications (US) and get about 2.2megs down and 256 up.

Of course I never 2.2 down from a normal website, but when testing.

P4 2.4Ghz HT, 512MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9600 128MB, 19" Viewsonic, 80GB HD
