Hello All.

I just DL the 30 day to DarkBasic and it is great. Got a question though. In the readme.txt it says it is compatible with various file types, one of which is 3DS. How do you take a 3DS into the DarkBasic game as a .x file? Or do I have to have a .x file, can I load in something else?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance

depending on what version of MAX you have depends on the version of pandax you will want, so be sure to read the text and look for the right version.

hope that helps

just use the .3ds to .x converter that comes with DB!

You won't get animation if converting from .3ds to .x

perhaps if you open the .3ds file with an object editor you can export it to .x, there is a HIDDEN COMMAND (yes many exist) that treats a .3ds file as an .x file...download the manual

cypher,

did you manage to export .X file using Panda exporter? I tried to export my model in MAX using the exporter but it doesn't work. There is nothing appear when I load the model.

What 3D modelling package you used? What settings you used when exporting it?

Thanks!

Bulleyes,

I did get the panda X exporter to work. I used 3DS Max 3.0 to do it with. The setting upon export work as default set them.

The only thing I do at times different is reverse normals. But default settings should work for you just fine.

Perhaps your camera is looking in the wrong direction?

In about a week, I am going to post the code, models, and textures of the little race game the forums and all it's wisdom has helped me build. I will accompany that with a screen shot of the X export settings screen.

The post will be at www.gamedevvault.com Keep an eye out for it in the news of the home page.

I will also post a thread in the Newcommers part of this forum to let everybody know.

If you need more info Bulleyes, please do not hestitate to ask.

Thanks a lot for trying to help me! I really appreciate that. Oh... BTW, did you export it as binary format or text? Some ppl claim that the text format doesn't work in Panda Exporter.

Or could be because I am using MAX 4.2.

Bulleyes,

Yep, I export as text with no frames and it works everytime. It could be your release of Max. I have 3.0 ,3.1, 4, 4,26, and 5.

Max 3.0 works best for the PandaX export option.

Hi all,

As promised I uploaded a small race game with models and code to;

www.gamedevvault.com/dbpro/race/race.zip

It includes an opponent who races against you. It's not textured all the way, but it's really just a resource to learn from.

When I try to run the game directly, my OS (WinXP Pro) tells me that an error has ocurred and the program must be stopped.

However, when I run it in Debug Mode, everything goes ok.

Weird ...
