I'm looking for some critique on this model.

At the moment, any advice on the geometry of the skateboard would also be helpful.(I'll worry about reducing the polycount later.)

(Untextured, unanimated models. Farthest on the left is just a high poly version for cutscenes,cover shot, etc.)

Enjoy!

I think his torso is too wide, also the wrists need to be a bit smaller.

other then that he's phat. I luv the skate board too

Looks ok so far, lower the sholders on your model. Currently it looks like he's got no neck because the sholders are square and high. Maybe just slant them down a bit on either side.

skateboard looks nice! how many players/polygons do you intend to have on screen at once? If the player will be 3rd person (and therefore pretty big onscreen), you might want to make the wheels 8 or 12 sided, then they would look rounder...

the guy looks good, except I think hos torso is a little blocky... and his shoulders seem a little high, like he's in the middle os shrugging

It's pretty low poly, so I'm assuming that it's going to be a zoomed out third person like tony hawk or soemting. There for the wheels really don't need many more polys since I don't think you'd really be able to see much of a difference.

That's my two sence. Listen to walaber though, he's done some really nice modelling.

Most skateboards have the wheels underneath the deck not out to the side. The deck also looks a little think, I guess that would depend on how it is going to be used in game.

I don't really see anything wrong with the bloke, look at some pictures of people skateboarding and they look like they are shrugging.

Thanks for all the comments.

I don't think the skateboard is too thick. It's designed to have just a little space for the guys feet.(Trust me, it'll look good in game. )

The shoulder problem can easily be fixed.
I'll make the neck a little longer, and try to give his torso some curves.(Since he's wearing a vest, I dunno if it'll be too necessary to make curves, but I'll try both it anyway and compare.)

Keep the comments coming.

Yeah, it's looking good, but I think the body should be a bit less square. Round it off at the corners and edges. Also the chest I think the chest should stick out a bit more (not to much, unless you're making a female character ). The shoulders should blend into the torso a bit better also.

The skateboard is definitly a lot thinker than actual skateboards, although it's not a bit deal. Heres a ref pic...

The wheels however should really be put mostly under the deck, only longboards (fast downhill racing) have wheels like that. See...

Keep it up!! Looking forward to seeing the updated version.

Trying is the first step towards faliure.

@stann65

Used Caligari Truespace5.2.(Used TrueX plug-in to export it to .X)
Usually can't go wrong with Caligari products.

@Hamish McHaggis

Thanks for the reference pictures. Will definitly come in handy.

@james1980

Yup, will easily be done.

yeah i think you need to lower the shoulders too, also if you move the verts at the corners of the torso inward using some kind of scale tool(sorry i use max), it will take the edge off the blockyness and make it that little bit more curved without the need for more polys. From what i can see he doesnt actually have a neck at all, might be a good idea to give him one, doesnt have to be too rounded as it will probly be mostly hidden anyway, but i think it would be missed if it wasnt there.

The feet look a little thin, you might want to try making them a little wider.

A very nice model none the less

Pete

I'm makin' a cake...
