Hello, I'm new to Dark Basic, but I have a little experience in C++ and Visual Basic. Since I am new, I was wondering what I should purchase first? My budget is a little small, I'm only 16 so I dont have an extreamly high paying job, in fact I normally ony get $150 USD every two weeks. The game I have plans to make is an MMORPG, can DB handle that? Thanks for your time, and I look forward to any assistance...

mmorpg is no easy task. If you can program one though, it can happen.

Since you're new to DB[P], I'd first like to welcome you to the forums, and to my site http://curvedbasic.dbspot.com.

Features loads of tutorials for getting started with DB[P]

Keep on DB'ing!

Thank you for all your help... I have another question... Dark basic pro and Dark Basic, what would you say makes one better then the other? I noticed a package that comes with Dark Basic and Dark Mater for 60, but DBP is still 90, with my budget, I think the cheeper one would make my parents less angry with me , but what could I do with pro that I wouldnt be able to with the 60 dollar package?

I don't have time to go into the many details (hopefully someone else will) but trust me when I say: GET DBPRO

Hey Spike - theres a lot of kids around here (Ill be 16 in a few months) and I know being 15-16 isnt exactly the 'rich age' of life DBP is a very good investment, you get so much more then DBC and seeing as you have knowledge in VB/C++ you should be able to get off to a great start. Youll miss classes tho from C++

MMORPGs can be handled, but they are incredibly hard to make/maintain due to the incredibly high price of reliable servers nowadays. If you think your dedicated enough to spend a lot of time/money on a MMORPG then by all means go for it. You might not want to start right off with a MMORPG as they can be a bit challenging, start off with something easier to get the grips of a new langauge.

Im working on an RPG Tutorial that may be of some use to help you learn as well

DBPRO ALL THEY WAY!
RpgGamer... Your 16.. im just turning 15.. I always imagined you as someone just entering or leaving college..

And yes.. every last one of us (except for that 1 rich guy) is poor.

150 dollars is pretty good for a after school job, try no dollars every two weeks.

DANGIT NEO, YOU CHANGED THE CODE AND NOW THE MATRIX WONT TEXTURE RIGHT.

Well...

DBP has more commands that DBC.
DBP has support for more advanced features.
DBP is still being developed and enhanced.
DBP is compiled and not intepreted, so it is faster.
DBP has support for the high performance DBO format.
DBP has excellent plugin support and a whole slew of extra functionality is available including collision libraries, physics packages, advanced string manipulation, ZIP support, etc.

You're also more likely to get better help and bug fixes from the forum users as well as direct support from TGC.

Does that help?

The editor is not a reflection of the games possible. Check out the example programs, the Alienware competition, and the showcase to see what is possible.
