What the heck is "desert.gsp"? Never hear of that.

MAKE TERRAIN says:
A heightmap file is a simple image file that contains a greyscale representation of the landscape heights. The image file must contain an image with identical width and height, and ideally be a resolution equal or greater than 256 colours.

I figure if this isn't a BMP,PNG,TGA,or JPG file, DB could choke there.

BTW, next time throw us a bone and tell the reader what you think it should do and what it is not doing. That will help people to narrow down the scope of the problem. Walking through other people's logic can be tricky as it is when there are no problems.
