I'm planning to go about making a 3d war game like medieval total war.
Any suggestions on where to start?

Be more specific. Sounds like this is your first game, in which case you should be thinking less Medieval Total War and more Pong. Trust me, you need to.

Currently thinking of a new company name
Sticking to a project idea for once

Ive made lots of 2d and i am trying to get more familiar with 3d. I know its a big jump but im confident I can do it

I would suggest making on of your existing games again but in 3d,You will then have done most of the hard work already. But the most important rule is planning, Think about how you want everything to work and put it all down on paper, Start of with coloured boxes for models or stuff from free 3d libaries. 3d is easy really, basically an extra dimension most of the commands are simalar to the ones youve already used in your 2D games.
