Hi!

I don't really know where to post this, so this is my best guess. I'm wondering (from some of the higher ups) what kind of multi-player support is going to be available in FPS Creator? I read that Join/Create network game will be there, but I'm a big fan of Command & Conquer: Renegade, and was wondering if at the very least the games made with FPSC can be scripted to connect to a server, get a server list, and allow the players to choose an online server to connect to? Unless there's some limit to how many players can be in a game (which I doubt seeing how flexible DB and TGC's other products is/are) I'd love to make some kind of 4-50player-in-a-room game that's easy to connect to, choose a server (or have the game randomly pick one for you, like one of Renegade's options)and hop right in, with server stats/etc that can show everyone the overall rankings of all players.

Easy multi-player connectivity might be a better title.

I think it is too soon to say what FPSC will have.

Here are some educated guesses on my part...

You can bet that it will have a peer to peer host mode for LAN play and probably TCP/IP. Based on DBP, that would mean a maximum of 255 players. But, the reality will probably be much lower based on actual network demands.

Will it have true server/lobby support? That would be gravy, but it would require more work. Perhaps they'll have Direct Play lobby support which will allow the game to be hosted on 3rd party servers, but I don't know enough to bank on that.

I likes to makes me own games, and I likes to makes me own words At least, that's the story I'm stickin' to...

>Will it have true server/lobby support?

That'd be great - does that include my next question, which I meant to include in the preceding:

Can people enter/exit games while they're playing? I've never been able to get into internet games that couldn't handle that, just sitting around waiting for the 4th person to come into the room... oh, here comes.. oops, nope, the third player left, gotta wait for one more now... Y'know what I'm talkin about ;p

Aye, I do what you're talking about. Using the multi-player commands in DBP I know you can join/exit a session that has already started. How that is coded depends on a number of things, but it is mainly a design issue. The technology is there, but the actual implementation is unknown for now.
