I just wrecked my computer and I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have Windows and Linux on my PC, but the registry went bad and so I reloaded Windows. When I boot up my computer, GRUB won't even come up! I can't boot to ANYTHING! Did I just trash my PC?

This is still Chessplaer! I just decided to spell my handle correctly!

I don't know, what exactly did you do that makes you think you "trashed" it?

Well do you have access do another computer? If so, you could temporarily install your hard drive to that one and see if you can access it...

If all else fails, reformat

load into dos using a bootdisk...

type:
fdisk /mbr

this will format your master boot record, making it possible for windows to load

Boot from a Linux LiveCD such as MEPIS, KNOPPIX or Gentoo and reinstall GRUB from there (or install LiLo).

Okay, here is what I figured out. The computer won't even boot to a floppy when Hard Drive A is the primary master. When I set it to slave, I'm able to boot to the other hard drive. When I go into DOS, I can't select the hard drive (e.g. "D:\"), but I can access information on it when I am in Windows. Does anyone know what the problem is?

sounds like something got misconfigured.... perhaps u can't read it in dos because it's an ntfs partition.. and perhaps you knocked it into a secondary partition so it won't boot up...

that's a lot of perhapses...

if you have partition magic...take a look at ur windows partition and see what you can dig up

i believe partition magic has a trial period or something...maybe
