So, I was starting to start modeling models for my new game, the first of which was a stick figure. I decided to do this in anim8or, because I'm totally new and anim8or looked easier than TrueSpace 3.2 to me. Those are the only two modelers I have. Anyways, I made the stick, and found that I couldn't save it to .x. I couldn't find the .3ds to .x converter in my DirectX 9 utilities, so I just loaded the stick figure into TrueSpace 3.2, painted it black metal, and saved it as a .x. Now, when I tried to load the model and position it for the game, it wouldn't load it. There was an error. So, what's wrong? The other thing is that TrueSpace tells me that the file is not a valid Win32 application. When I try to open it in Anim8or, it just says it can't load it. When I load it in DarkMATTER browser, it quickly shows it and then closes because of error. However, the .3ds file works perfectly everywhere except for the game itself, I actually tried. What is going on?

You might need to reposition your textures to the same location as your model and tweak the texture paths in the .X file.

Umm...how do I export material textures? BTW, the way I solved the problem was by dling the Milkshape 1.7 trial and importing the .3ds into it, exporting the .x out of it (without textures, the only tools I could find in Milkshape were primitive makers) and used a random image for the texture. (texture object)

There's a file "conv3ds.exe" floating on the internet, you might want to download it. I dont have a link

conv3ds.exe is also part of the directx SDK which you can download from microsoft.

MS3D has a nice texture editor in it and via the materials tab you can create materials and select/assign them to polygons.

I have the DirectX SDK, but can't find conv3ds. I even did a search on my whole computer. And what is MS3D? Direct3D?

MS3D = Milkshape 3D (currently at version 1.7)

As to no 3dsconv.exe in the current DirectX SDK. That sux, if they have removed it. Don't let one little set back stop you from searching the web.
