sorry if this is off topic but you all know that site http://www.3dcafe.com which claims to have hundreds of free models but when i try to download them, theres NOTHING. anybody know why?

Goto Free Stuff, then 3D Models. Works for me

I know what you are talking about. Open them in your editor and find the button "select all" then resize them, sometimes they are SOOO small or SOOO big that you cant see them!

okay never mind i got the files but even the ones claiming to be 3ds are MAX. do i actually need to buy 3ds max to use the models? what modelers can import these?

You can use an object convertor to convert the models into any format you like. Google on "Zoltan Object Convertor" or something... This Zoltan guy made a convertor that handles over 300 formats (even DeleD maps )!
