If you group each area and use a diffusion you can give the skinner a small representation of what needs to be coloured and where

Without sounding like a bugbear, the model is probably too high in polygons.

As far as texturing, since you use lightwave check out
[href]www.luxology.net[/href]
they have a lot of great presets you could benefit from.

Froogle
i will put the scene on the ftp link i gave you already, expect it up after 9:00pm (-5GMT) tonight. I use a simple 3 spotlight scene. 2 front lights at 50%-70% intensity with a slight reddish hue. you should also increase the angle of projection depending on the object size and reflective surface angles. The rear light is set basically behind the camera. I will still send you the scene. In the meantime go to luxology.net to get some good textures for the ground.

Stan56
you can actually do me a favor. i will give you a fully textured lightwave scene with animations (not froogle's helmet though). Please just render it and tell me how truespace looks. I am very curious about truespace and how it compares to lightwave. thankyou, email me [email protected] so i know where to send you the link for the scene

As far as converting lightwave to .x use Deep exploration if you can (not sure how much it is I have to take my files round a friends house for conversion). but its as simple as opening the file and saving it again.

although milkshape is capable of converting it too(you have to export from lightwave as a .lwo version 5 file - so you lose all your saved textures if you use anything higher) and then export from milkshape as a dirct x file (.x). You'll either need to retexture in milkshape or something or declare your objects rgb values in DB or you'll get black objects.

*helpful hint if your using lightwave to model don't forget to triple your model (this if you don't know turns all the surfaces into triangles) this will stop your models looking incredibly deformed as my first few did.

Somewhere in the forums someone did mention the scale changeover rate from lightwave to DB. I think it was something like 1` lightwave meter to...oh rats I don't remember.. (I'll seee if I can find it and edit this post later.

my answer to EVERYONES question about converting models: use lithunwrap. open model> save model as> choose from any 3d model format thats globally used: ani8or, milkshape, lightwave 5, x, 3ds, md3, mdl, etc etc etc

Hey all,
I haven't really got much to say except how good both the model and the texturing is. The texture shows off how good the model is and model is the perfect shape for the texture. Amazing.

Ok this is where I ended up before ..its now ultimate unwrap and has the following problem...

The demo is fully functional (except for saving), works with all third party plugins, includes examples and comprehensive help documentation

not much use if I can't save...

@ siege, dark coder is write and i don't only use truespace for game modelling so that wht they are there and the word 'other' kind of gives that away.

guys in order to export animation from lightwave, export it in .lwo format as usual. then import it in anim8or which supports the format (yes it does support a format called .lwo). from there you can easily export ;P

thats just dull and boring. lithunwraps smaller than anim8or, and is useful with its own texturing tools.

even though animator is a modeller so is useful as a modeller, who the hell would use anim8or when they use lightwave?

I didn't read all the replies but..

None of the reflections and environment maps will be exported with the model. these things are set up for use with the original package only.
