For some reason Wings 3D has ... well ... I'm not sure!
It saves and exports in any format except .3ds which is the only one Dark Basic can open!
Can you suggest what is wrong?
Thanks in advance.

I've had bad experiences with .3ds export from wings. I've actually found that 3DS from any package/converter seems to be missing vertex normals, so everything looks flat-shaded.

Make sure you've got the latest release of Wings3D and use wavefront .obj format. It's da bomb. Then find a converter from .obj to .x.... I currently don't have a reliable converter, as lithunwrap seems to remove all normals - I could be being stupid though.

converters OBJ--->x

Lithunwrap (freeware, not available now)
Metasequoia LE (free for non comercial)
Accutrans (no nag/limit shareware)
Crossroads (freeware)

*.3ds does not support shared UVs, smoothing bad support, no long names support...run away from it...

THIS NEEDS TO BE IN A FAQ!!!

I've been repeating the same thing for three years!!!

USE .OBJ ALL the TIME BETWEEN SOFTWARES until it is time to convert to the wanted format.

The 3DS format is the worst export format you may be thinking of using.
