Or, make a game that involves you flying through a tunnel, and tings pop up that you have to shoot.
As you shoot them, it loads a name of a file and goes soemthing akin to:
"Pop! You just destroyed cmd.exe!"
each time you shoot one...

Then, make it shoot them anyway and make sure you can see the expression on their faces as they kill all their files

a decent DarkBasic virus would be one written in C that added a new first line to every file ending with .dba, and would put in that first line 'End'.

Zero Blitzt, XP is v. protective of the WINDOWs folder, and some computers we keep hearing about (i.e. computers' of a friend of a friend) don't have the windows directory as c:\windows.

C:\windows. Your first deliberate mistake. Not c:/windows. C:\windows.

Your second deliberate mistake - you put an 'S' instead of '$' on the end of one of the variable names

alert("is here")
</script>

that is prety sweet!
but, Personaly I would change it so that it doesn't delite the windows files!

A good fake virus downloads info from a server somewhere that contains all of the information of current virus threats. It then puts those files onto the host computer. After that, it checks to see which virus scanner is installed and runs it. Then it creates a fake backdoor and uses memory while that backdoor is still on the hard drive.

Or, the virus could move all of the files into a seperate hidden folder somewhere in the windows directory (or documents and settings) and then move all of the startup menu files, and then populate the desktop with adds for things. It then does what I posted above.

No, a good fake virus is something that can scare the user, that's all.
Even a programm that opens and closes the CD drive would be scary to some people.

I once came across a damn scary fake virus! It was emailed to me by a friend. Being entitled 'Remove copy protection from any CD' he recommended I tried it. I virus scanned it first, and it was clean. I double clicked on it.....

....It said 'please wait'. After this, an explorer window appeared, with the delete dialouge entitled 'Removing directory: Windows'. It asked me if I wanted to delete it. I tried to pressm 'no' but the buttons bept swopping! It 'deleted' windows and the screen went black.

After that the words 'Thank God its only a game appeared'. I nearly p***ed myself. It turned out to be a promo for te game 'virus'. Damn good fake I tell you!

Another mean virus (which can't be done in DBPro unless you do it using FTP) is to make e-mail attachments look like viruses. Then the user gets freaked out bcuz they think they're getting sent lots of viruses.

yea!
hmm bout time someone bumped this thread
i was thinking about it but afraid of bum, ping a dead thread and didnt want to make one myself cause there was already a thread

anyway
a really funny thing to do is like actually print the folders and say u are deleteing them and under nt5+(2k/xp/server) u could go into the documents and settings and say like "deleteing your file <username>" by extractiong the name from the end of C:documents and settingsmyusername but anyway

edit:
also i have made myself immune to "ameture" viruses by making my home drive instead of C:\ I:\ and right now i can proudly say "I have no C: drive"
and strange thing is that WINDOWS SETUP assigned it that way my hdd had 1 other partition and it called that 1 my C: drive but then i went thru and deleted it cause it was only so i wouldnt have ot burn like 10 cds
so now i use the space for mirroring my 160gb hdd and for mirror my docs and projects
just in case someting happened
i also use it to backup my backup although one day i will burn it onto a dvd ... someday

anyone still on 98 or 95 try running this at the command prompt
start nul/nul/

but save your work first i beleive onyl on a few pcs does it not crash

X-Patch x-patch.exe(gui):75% make.exe:5% x-patch.dll(runtime dll):0% developed on win xp home sp2

yes that is why i said ameture most ametures will hardcode in C:windows

and shutdown/f psshh it gives u too much time anyone who knew how could cancle it
but i thought that was shutdown /r not /f or maybe /f isnt included on 2k

edit:
also anyone who knows asm could destroy a hdd although most likely would have to have it booted from floppy or a hacked mbr and bootsector which i have no idea as far as how to change anything as far as botting on an hdd

A virus can be made with dbpro. The only catch is someone has to run it first. Then..... with dbpro you could:
1: make it run hidden
2: give it network access to spread
3: make it autostart from then on using the registry or win ini or the start menu.
4: make it copy itself to a new location each start and add more start-up locations each time.
5: disable user keys
6: do unspeakable horrors to the users PC.

It would require DirectX. But with a few tools the apropriate DLL could be added to the file. This would be a large virus (10+megs), but anti-virus programs would not recognize it and would believe it to be a valid app.

Definition of Virus:

Software used to infect a computer. After the virus code is written, it is buried within an existing program. Once that program is executed, the virus code is activated and attaches copies of itself to other programs in the system. Infected programs copy the virus to other programs.

The effect of the virus may be a simple prank that pops up a message on screen out of the blue, or it may destroy programs and data right away or on a certain date. It can lay dormant and do its damage once a year. For example, the Michaelangelo virus contaminates the machine on Michaelangelo's birthday.

Viruses Must Be Run to Do Damage
A virus is not inserted into data. It is a self-contained program or code that attaches itself to an existing application in a manner that causes it to be executed when the application is run. Macro viruses, although hidden within documents (data), are similar. It is in the execution of the macro that the damage is done.

THAT, is a trojan, a type of virus.

Quote: "Once that program is executed, the virus code is activated and attaches copies of itself to other programs in the system. nfected programs copy the virus to other programs."

That is a worm, another type of virus.

Quote: "A virus is not inserted into data."

Not all virus', some can be files that aren't normally consitered virus files, but can still be explioted.

Quote: "It is a self-contained program or code that attaches itself to an existing application in a manner that causes it to be executed when the application is run."

Once again, worm.

This is so weird, all theese posts over a stupid 20-line program!!!!!

Anyway, you could make a virus that edits the autoexec.bat file to run some strange program everytime you turn on the computer.
