Just for a bit of clarity, the blue background is automatically created when you load a 3D object, or when you set backdrop on. As its technically 3D, it gets updated every sync, so if you paste an image or write text to the screen without updating it every loop, it will be overwritten by the backdrop. Turning it off though might make images and text stay there when you dont want it.

Its not a bug, its a feature!

yes, there are reasons to have it on or have it off depending on what you are doing so...if you need it on but want to change it's color use the color backdrop command, as I stated originally.

What you want to do is
color backdrop rgb(r,g,b)

Of course, if you are using a sky box or Sky sphere, it won't make a difference

speaking of sky boxes/sky spheres/backdrops, say I'm rendering an environment and want to create a sky blue backdrop with some clouds rolling along in it; what's the most effective/efficient way to do this?

i used a textured plain with clouds on it, positioned above the level, with transparency and a blue backdrop color
(see the game i am making with x-trade http://darkbasic.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=29622&b=8)

you can then scroll the cloud texture on the plain so it looks like they are moving.
