Oki, how much do you know about modelling, cos this will greatly affect what you can understand about it.

To be brief though, UV mapping is a method of mapping 2d textures to a 3d object, by assigning each vertex a position in 2d space, with U and V for X and Y.

Most 3d package will contain help files, so look through them for help. You could also try looking for tutorails on the net

I found a very helpful tut on the matter of UV mapping, here :http://www.psionic3d.co.uk/tutorials/lowpoly/zuvm.html. It uses milkshape, but Im sure its the same with any modelling program, and Lith Unwrap, which is a really nice program.
