General Certificate of Secondary Education.

Huge set of national exams for 15/16 year olds. They're really important - lots of universities use them to decide on applicants because lots of people get the same A levels (the next set of exams)

They've started already but they're pretty spread out - so at the moment it's revise, revise, revise for everyone my age in the UK.

Quote: "Pitch: A 3d(2d if i can't find/accquire 3d models) battleship game.
Plot: You've been sent back in time to the second world war by professor <insert stupid name here> your aim is to stop the war in its tracks by destroying the german fleets near the beginning. Saving hundreds of thousands of people lives etc etc. Its not even remotely historically accurate and will just be tacked on to a battleship game remake"

I don't think it really fits the time theme, sure, you've been sent back in time, but IMHO I don't think they were aiming for that. Remember, they said time/time manipulation and one of the main things it's been judged on is the way time is used as a theme. You might want a secondary way to implement time into that idea.

The poor sucker who gets this prize.
http://www.acoders.com/acsite/competition_viewproduct.php?id=42

Heck though, the only reason I'm entering is because I want that Animation Master for first prize.
-------------
Anyways, only a month and a week left! This is kinda crazy for me in that way. I'm taking a two week vacation so that means ~3 weeks for me.

Not to mention, the 2004 retro competition started and I want to enter that.

1 month & 1 week. I do have one idea... and the entries so far don't look all that impressive.

but did you see the judge specs? Nice cpu's, but lousy gfx cards... Baaaad for DBpro.

I'm just hoping they'll be able to run cartoon shading as that's what my entry heavily relies on.

maybe somebody should tell them that DBDN is gone

@red_eye- not a very time "manipulative" game but if you do make it call the proffesor "Fizzlewart"

what was that about a retro competition? where can i find the website?

Quote: "It took people a long time to make a top selling game in C!!! Believe me, it took about 10 years...honestly. Assembler was the language, and C was like DBPro. It might be interesting to find out the first top selling commercial game written in C. I have no idea what it would be. It would be around the time of the PS1 I reckon."

Id Software used Borland Turbo C++ for all of thier games, the earliest was Commander Keen in 1986.

That's the oldest one I can think of which I know used C; that said I think almost every IBM-Compatible Game was created in C w/ASM.
You'd only use ASM if you needed low level access, this is true today still.

I mean it's like everyone saying professional companies used ASM to Create GameBoy games. Most companies used a C Library for it, you use ASM your just adding to your workload needlessly.

chris sorry but i've got to correct you:

"so at the moment it's revise, revise, revise for everyone my age in ENGLAND (and maybe Wales too) "

in Scotland we have a different education scheme, we have standard grades instead of gcse's at that year level but our exams were over at least a month ago, i'm on summer hols now but we go back in august.

edit: as for the compo i may enter but i don't have much time over the hols so i doubt i'll get an entry in, someone mentioned space invaders earlier, i wrote space invaders in borland turbo pascal, multi-colour, 10 levels of difuculty, only 12kb exehttp://www.lochviewwest.plus.com/spaceinv.exebut i don't think i could enter that, doesn't really fit the time theme.

Hey, the rules for this compo. say we "must included needed runtimes". Does that mean we have to include DirectX 9b?

Hey, I remember playing that when I was like 5. Perhaps I shall make a remake of that game for the remakes competition.

Well it's official :

I'M OUT !!!

I really wanted to compete. I invested about 12 hours into this competition, and paid $50 for some artwork, but I'm going to stop now and officially drop out of the Acoders compeition. I simply don't have enough time to put into this project.

Best of luck to everyone else!

Maybe I'll join the next competition. Who knows???

Yes, I hired an artist to draw 6 characters for my game.

Why the shock?

Well it's official :

I'M IN AGAIN !!!

I just couldn't stay away!

I just got a new idea for the game. I now have two weeks left to pull it off. Let's see what I can do!

I have learned from my last competition. My game will be simple and fun. Not long and complicated. But it will still be funny, as all of my games are!

TobyQuan, aren't you glad you stayed in the compo.

Congrats.

I know we had lots of winners here(at least three?), so show off your entries here. You guys deserve to show off your entries, great job. (Heh, I just dumped mine)

Yes, I am glad I got back in!

I am honored to have won 3rd place. I think the judging was very fair.

You know - the game that won 4th place was just a few points behind me - so it was very close!!!!
