I'm just curious, what do you guys think is the greatest game of all time? I looked through a few pages and didn't find any with this question, so if there is one already, forgive me.

Elite!........I think.

I like lots, it's hard to say, but most of the time I am trying to make an Elite game.

Splinter Cell 2 is a fantastic game I agree. One of my favourite games of all time was Urban Chaos for the witty (and very well written, for a change) dialogue [Quote "That's IT copper! I'm gonna kick your ASS!"] and the fact that it was one of the first games that really let you run around as you please and approach missions in different ways.

Really? It's asked every 4 or 5 months on this forum. And I always say Elite. Every time.

Super Mario 64 was tops BTW. That and Mario Kart on the Advance made me love Ninty almost as much as a PC. But only those two annoyingly. Oh, and Starfox of course. But only them unfortuantly. Zelda didn't quite (close though!) get to me as much as most.

Cheers

DOOM. The original is 10 years old and still the greatest game of all time. (But credit also to Wolfenstein/Catacomb Abyss/the few other FPS games that ID made before it.) Doom 1/2/Final/Ultimate/Whatever is the greatest in so many ways. And the total customizability of it from weapon editing, graphic altering, and complete level-making made it 100x better.

But while DOOM is the greatest, it and Ocarina of Time are the top interchanging 2 for my "favorite"...

Syndicate (the original) was an absolute classic, come to think of it, during the early nineties Bullfrog was one of my favourite companies. When they broke up, some formed Lionhead and went on to make Black & White whereas others formed Mucky Foot who went on to make URBAN CHAOS! Sadly, Mucky Foot died in November 2003, and along with them went any hope of a sequel

Yeah, definetly Secret of Mana for SNES. I was addicted to that game, argh, I wanna play it now. It was awesome that it was an RPG-ish game, yet you could have multiple players all helping each other through the game world. Yep, definetly my all time favorite. (For the PC it would still have to be original Half-Life. That game was just, wow, wow)

I've always liked Starcraft the most for RTS games, I've played all the other C&C games as well as Dark Reign but they just can't compare to Starcraft, a huge LAN game of SC is great fun.

Evidence of a C programmer.

My favourites are:
Strategy: Command and Conquer: Red Alert II (either yuri's revenge, or Brasil Mod)
FPS: UT or UT2k3. Haven't played the UT2k4 yet.
also, That old helicopter game I used to play on a 286 pc.

Can I see a demo now? [edit]Disregard, I saw the demo.

its already been said once but its gotta be said again The Doom series were the best games ever made, now the source code has been released, even the original has all the options u expect from a modern fps, such as online play or ability to create mods etc. Can't wait for Doom 3!

Captive (1990 Mindscape):

Best RPG game ever - very similar to the classic Dungeon Master, but with robots and aliens and umpteen cool weapons.

Other than that I'd say UT on the Dreamcast, Halo, Half-Life, and Kung-Fu-Chaos.

I'm surprised no ones has mentioned the King's Quest or Space Quest games from Sierra. Personally I was a bigger fan of the Space Quest series, because of the humor. It was cool to watch those games go from glorified text adventures to fully graphical adventures.

I recommend all of the Space Quest games to anyone who likes adventure games!

Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, etc. were also fun. Sierra had sauce back in the day.
