I'm glad you posted this. I've never seen it before, but I always mention the similarities when people start talking about how good HP is. I couldn't believe what a rip-off it was when I saw it.

There was a study that reckoned all "popular" films follow one of 3 storylines. By "popular", they mean the run-of-the-mill box offices hits that are big at the time, then pale away quickly.
