no, you can take this seriously. I saw it yesterday on TV and downloaded it. Some guys from the Demo scene made it, because of this, the complete game is only 96k. It has great graphics and shadows. some good models, too. the sound sucks, but hey it's only 96k with all media. the trick is they don't save the meshes, they save a cube and the "modifier stack". when loading, the cubes are modified and saved in the memory. same goes for textures. please try it, it's no fake

Take it seriously - it's from these guys: http://www.farb-rausch.com/, who are basically my demo-scene idols and probably the most talented PC coders out there.

Check out the stunning fr-030: Candytron (64KB) with it's awesome soundtrack, or the bloody amazing fr-025: the.popular.demo. Both from the site above.

Cheers,

Rich

perhaps it's your gfx cards, but don't forget it's still a beta. Something interesting those guys stated, was that the engine itself is around 32kb and the rest is all media

Works fine on my PC and I must say I'm very impressed. I get a few graphical glitches and I got stuck in one of the iris doors but even so you can not fail to be mystified at how they crammed everything into a 98K zip file. Then again, remember how much gaming you could get into a 48K spectrum.

Boo!

why is it that winzip and stuff like that can't compress that good?

Because it's not compression. It's a set of instructions.

What's smaller? The instruction on how to draw a stick man:
Circle
Line downwards (body)
Two more lines (legs)
Two more lines (arms)
(About 40bytes)

Or a 300kb bitmap picture of the stickman?

That's the principle they imply for most of their media, hence rediculously small file size.

Still fikkin amazing!

It obviously compresses itself to buggery!

I just watched a few demos, thanks to Rich's link, and just found out some geeza I used to write music with (Wayfinder) does softsynth/music programming and composing for them! hehe. Small world.

I think I know how they did the models, textures too. sound is understandable. BUT what about the code and the shaders. Hmmm. Maybe machine code. Thats very low in resources.
