Hi boyz!

I've exported the Poser 5 default model in 3DS format (1.05 Mb) and I've tryed to import it with DBPro but the running exe of my project seems blocked.

-Is possible to import Poser 5 models in DBPro? Exist softwares 4 polys decrease?
-What's the best software to make buidings 4 games? Is Milkshape 3d good 4 this purpose?

Thanx

Yes, Milkshape 3D is an all around workhorse that works well with most game formats. For DBP, DBO is the best format followed by .X and 3DS (which is very slow and not always reliable.) There are other model format supported with varying degrees of success.

Look in the Program Announcent section for a X to DBO convertor.

mmmmmmm..........

I've tryed to import in Milkshape 3D a Poser 5 .3DS model (3.35 Mb)...
appears that 45539 faces and 12931 vertices are too many for Milkshape 3D.

depends which version of milkshape you are using, and alos 45k polys is absolutly supid polycount for an ingame model you need to aim for around 2000 mark to get your games running smoothly

I've reduced the polys with Polytrans 4.1 to about 1700 polys (56,5 Kb), and both Milkshape and Anim8or visualized my model, but if I try to load it with DBP the exe crash down.
This is the code (see the button 'source' below):

sorry 4 my poor english

Thx Dark Coder!
in fact now I can see the model in the program with smoothly camera movements.
errr....... after the polys reduction to 1700 polys the body model seems like a swiss cheese: holes everywhere!! But I can make it good.

Thx again

it seems that polygon reducer isnt very good at retaining the original mesh and removes some polys, milkshape has a polygon reducer its called directx tools under the tools tab, all you do is drag the bar down to the selected polycount and it will show you what it would look like if you had that polycount, although all polgon reducers have problems this ones free

The Milkshape 3d can't import an hi-polys model like the Poser 5 models. The only software I've found that can import and decrease polys of a Poser 5 model is PolyTrans 4.1.

Thx Dark Coder

OK, with Milkshape 3D 1.7.0 I can import the 3DS Poser model, but if I select from the Tools menu the DirectX Mesh Tool the Milkshape crash down, obviously for the many polys to draw, because if I reduce a bit the polygons with PolyTrans and then I try to import in MS3D the model I can use the DX Mesh Tool, but the PolyTrans Polys Reduction Utility everytime make some holes in my model.

I think exist a tool in MS3D that can cover with polygons the missed polygons... I think is the Joint Tool... is possible?

.....errr......
If I use the Joint Tool every time the MS3D crash down!

theres no way a program can fill in gaps, and the joint tool is for skeletory animation nothing to do with that

I've got the solution!

step 1) export each body part like singles .3ds models from the Poser 5;
step 2) reduce the polys from the body parts with MilkShape 3D;
step 3) create the skleleton for the animations in Anim8or and attach to it the body parts (I'm good on puzzles);

In the end I'll have the model compact, low-poly and plus with the animation skeleton!

I'll try this way.

ugh.........

step 1 and step 2 accomplished, some troubles with the step 3:
I can import in anim8or the parts, but after I've created the skeleton if I attach an object to a bone the object didn't appear... or the object is too small to appear (I've tryed to scale it) or the object is out of the origin point (but I've centered it).

Mah..........

some programs can close gaps and milkshape is indeed one that can do that.

fall down seven times, stand up eight

Thx

Now I'm on the way to recompose the object in anim8or...
by te way is an hard work....

anyone know the simplest method to add a skeleton to an exported Poser model?
I've saw that in the MS3D there are default skeletons.
