Hi all - first post on the board. Just awaiting my copy of DBPro, so I'm starting on 3dCanvas in the meantime.

I just wondered if I could ask a couple quick questions:

1) What's a recommended range of polys per character in a 3d game? I know it's also going to matter what sort of detail is in your world, etc. Just hoping I can hear what people consider generally acceptable.

2) These .dbo files that everyone's talking about... it doesn't seem to be an export format for 3d Canvas. I'm sure there's a plugin or transformation app around here, so I won't ask about that (I'll save everyone the need to say 'search the forum'). But what I'm wondering is - shouldn't that be a requirement of 3DC, since it's the 'official' Dark Basic modeler?

Okay - game on!

well doom 3 has characters aroud the 1500 polygon mark, I've heard unreal tournament has around 3000 so. It actually depends on your overall poly count. You must consider your levels and weapons too. I estimate about 15 000 to 20 000 total including effects. I've heard 32 000 polygons was good considering the power of the machines now. So.. these are estimates. I can be wrong.
