Having installed this on all 5 XP machines that I use (started with my works one, as I needed to make sure all our programs work with it), I'm happy to say it seems very stable.

There is a bug between Windows Firewall and the new security centre, which, when try to inform Microsoft of, it came back with a Server error (wonderful).

However, one important problem did present itself : After installing the SP, the files and/or registry enteries for NAV 2004 became corrupted, and thanks to Symantecs wonderful uninstall routine, meant I couldn't install 2004 again - I had to go back to 2003.

Aside from that I do like this SP2 (and I've also got the firewall on - double protection - its a lot better than the previous version).

I'm pleased to say DBPro still works (as well as VC .Net although I have heard that a debugging part of it no longer does).

I heard that after SP2, you can't select "No Automatic Updates". You either have "yes - hit me with all your crap" or "piss me off later"..

or words to that effect anyway...

is this true?

That sounds like an anti-Microsoft lie

Of course you can turn off Automatic updates, much like you can turn off the Windows Firewall.

Yeah, I've installed it on my older system. It's VERY stable and the new features are excellent!

I read on another forum RC2 will be in May and the final possibly in June.

According to the timetable, it looks from June onwards...
I do like the ad blocker thats in IE now (I've gone back to using IE & Outlook now).
Seems stable enough.
Its a very big download (280Mb), so probably 56K modem users will probably have to wait a bit for it to arrive on a coverdisk or something.
It also takes a while to install too...
The Windows Update system seems a lot harder to use - you cant select indiviual critical updates unfortunately, so if it lists something it shouldn't, it could possibly cause problems.
Oh, and it does check the product key of XP...

TCA: I hope you don't have me pegged as an anti-microsoft fanatic. I realise that given our previous discussions, it may seem like I was pro-linux (which is true) but that doesn't mean I'm anti-microsoft. Besides, I was only paraphrasing what I'd read here:

Oh no, I wasn't directly attacking your post - it just sounded like the original source hadn't tried SP2...

One thing I still get with DBPro is the Ever Expanding Buttons problem in Outlook.

Wow, I'm excited about the ad-blocker in IE. I've been using Firefox and Thunderbird for months because of the security problems in Outlook Express and IE.

With Outlook open, for every compile, the icons along the top get bigger and bigger.
