Well I know these threads are always really really boring but I was too excited. I got the 290mb demo of Unreal tournament 2004 and gota say, I went into a comma. To start of the last UT I played was the original Unreal tournament for the PC. I had no idea about the hype for 2003 because I never played it...but the point is, UT2004 is incredible, and runs super slick. The vechiles are awsome, the physics of the players falling is just as fun to watch as playing the actual game, and I'm still glad they have the feature with the rocket launcher that lets you load it up and shoot 3 at once. (Although it used to be 5) Anyway, don't mind me, I just got a real taste of modern gaming because not long ago got a really good PC and all I played was Enter The Matrix. Now off to play UT2004 it on-line! Anyone wanna join...?

I am a fan of UT:Game of the Year Edition, and UT2004 doesn't keep the feel of the original like most sequels do.

Yeah, I liked the original Unreal and UT too, but Unreal 2 was just a glossy shooter with no skill involve (my oppinion, please don't flame me) and I played the demo of UT2003: none of my computers run it fast enough to avoid death at the hands of embarrassingly low-set bots.
So now I just stick to U and UT (GOTYE)
Too many acronyms?

Unreal 2: XMP is the best by far, and a refreshing change from the standard frag-fests of the other Unreal games

Haven't played XMP. But I have got access to a free version of it. But if Unreal 2003 ran slow, Unreal2 XMP is probably going to as well. <sigh> I think I'll go blast some nali.

I found that with RTCW online, made worse by slow modem connection, best bet is to keep moveing and stay out of confined spaces that can be filled with exploding objects, and go for the dudes with fast connnections and wipe them 1st, you last longer in the long run

As a rule, I don't go online with a game until I've finished the single-player mode. Unfortunately that's only happened twice. So now I mostly play UT online.

Yeah, really nifty. Especially if you left click while loading them up and keep your mouse hovering over a player for a while so it locks on. You release and 3 rockets go spiralling towards the player, almost no chance of escape.

Unreal Tournament classic scores the best IMO, and it remains more playable and overall more fun than UT2k4. I like ut2k4, but it dosen't have that feeling... low points for merit.

Well UT2004 is out for sale, but it's on DVD, and I don't have a DVD player on my computer. Plus it's £40! Otherwise I would have bought it. I'm playing 2003 from the beginning again now that I have an FX 5200. I can play it on full specs!!! YAY! Everything looks spiffy.

If you're in UK, go to http://www.play.com. Its where I got mine from, and the cheapest I've found (at the time of buying, anyway):

DVD = £17.99 delivered
CD = £17.99 delivered

EDIT:
Just checked, DVD has gone up to £24.99 but CD stays at £17.99

Unreal 2 IMO sucked. It looked good and that was all. Weak story, game was too easy, and waaaaay to short. ut2k3 was great. Anyone wanna play instagib with me?

Unreal II was too easy, for sure.

I got the Ut2k4 special limited edition box set . Totally cool game, but not beating ut1, it does make me forget about the disappointment of 2003 though.

2003 removed my favorite weapon, sniper rifle. And dual pistols! 2k4 puts the pistols back!

Does anyone know if the UT2k3 Mutators are compatible with UT2k4? I can't find any mods that are for UT2k4 only.
[edit] BTW: If they are compatible, I recomend the CFX mutator from www.ut2003hq.com

Can I see a demo now? [edit]Disregard, I saw the demo.

Some mutators are compatable.
I'm currently sorting through my UT2003 files to see which work and which don't. From my experience, mutators (well, most of) work, skins/models work (but not with vehicle's, your character carries on running instead of sitting etc).
Mods however, are a trial and error situation. Out of all the mods I have tested, so far xCTF is the only one so far.

Deathball has been recoded (still in beta stage though) for UT2004 (http://www.deathball.net). There aren't many servers with it on, but given the popularity of the mod, loads more are likely to come.
UnrealDemolition (http://www.unrealdemolition.com/) is one which I'm personally looking forward to. They released a video for it, and it looks really good. On their site there is a download for it, but I can't get it (motherboard screwed up at the worst possible time, although it is giving a chance to continue learning C++).

I just downloaded UnrealDemolition. The bots don't move much. If you want to play it, invite some friends over and have a LAN party.

Damn, maybe bot support will be further implemented (or should that be just implemented?) with a further update.
When I get my computer up and running again and I migrate from this thing (hmm, integrated 16mb graphics, 600mhz, windows me etc) onto my gaming one, I sooo have to give it a go.

What is online play like, or are there no servers supporting it yet?
If there are no servers, its the kinda thing I'd have to get a LAN going at uni.

I don't know what it'd be like as my connection is pretty slow. I remember I used to try playing UT Classic on-line but that wouldn't go well.
