Can anyone tell me how i can get a bitmap image of a 3d image so i can make a texture map for the object? i've tried finding software for it but i just cant work it out because my objects look very flat and boring and when i put textures on them it looks funny and stripy i just want it like a flat bitmap that will wrap around the object properly. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Getting a single image to wrap is called UV mapping.
The UV mapping depends on the software you use so you have to state your software.

The only software i have is 3ds max 4, truespace 3 and Cinema 4d ce6 but all i want is something to unfold all of the polygons to give me a flat view of the object so i can draw a texture onto it.

LithUnwrap would probably do what you want, I think.

the chilli skinner plug in for max is also very good for this
