Okay I was wondering if someone could give me links to tutorials for a tile based sidescroller. Also if I could make a level editor type program that allows me to easily add levels to my game. Thanks in advance.

I'm building a Mario type game in DBC, but I don't know of any tutorials. I've found what works really well is to have your main character stay centered on the screen and scroll the background/tiles. Also textured plains work way better than sprites.

As for a level editor, I'm building one in Visual Basic 6 for my Mario type game, since that's the language I know the best.

A 3D plain is a flat polygon in 3D space. You can texture it to simulate a sprite.
