I have finished a high poly and made a low poly counterpart to the model and i would like to know if there are any free programs that allow you to generate a normal map for the object, because i would like to try out the normall mapping technique on DBPro

I would wait a few weeks for Melody from NVIDIA.
It was planned for GDC release, however now it will be released during WinHEC.
Unsure why it wasn't released before, we've had a copy of it since December...

(yeah that is roughly how long it is between the Release Candidates and public release for nvidia)
I woul really suggest waiting for it though, it is 13MB; v.fast and extremely easy to use.

Results in Real-Time, plus texture editing and so many options for optimisation you don't know what to do with them all.
I will see if I can't grab some High Poly model, remake it low and show you the results. (as we don't get any media with ours cept Dawn)

Hi,
Melody is now available from Nvidia's developer website
I use Ati's Normal mapper, a second edition is available which also creates displacement maps.
It takes a bit of practice to use but I find Ati's solution gives much better results, particularly when your target model is very low poly. It also gives you more control over the final polycount than Melody, since you actually create the low poly model.

Regards
