ok here is what i want to see. Download the fast graphics bencharm from the showcase and run it. then desplay the following info

CPU: Duron 1.8ghz (oced to 2.4)
VCARD: Xabre 400 64mb (DX8.1)
RAM: 256mb pc2700
FPS: 9-14

so i can then make an analysis of why my test systems all ran such crap frame rates. im willing to bet that DBP doesnt work on computers that dont have DX9 for hardware.
NOTE: i think that any card with Nvidia detonator or Radeon drivers will work with DBP. I believe that my graphics card just has crap drivers.

could you give a direct link as i don't remember a fast graphcis benchmark for dbp.

That said your using an SiS Xabre 400 w/Duron Processor... this really isn't the most ideal combination.
Even o/c'ed to 2.4GHz your Duron will only be equal to a a P4 1.5GHz (the Cache is a huge part of speed in games)

SiS never have been particularly good at making graphics cards. A good example is the 6326, was released to compete with the Savage4 Pro for the bottom card position in 96.
In DB, 6326 got 15fps on Tank and the Savage4 Pro got 70fps; that was on a P2-266MHz.

Alot of games were unplayably slow. I would suggest trading the card in for a low end Geforce/Radeon

The hardware does not have to support all of the DX9 features, but the driver must be compatible with DirectX 9. The Xabre 400 is indeed a rubbish graphics card, however, its specifications certainly match what DBPro requires and although it is slightly unusual, it should work.

On older graphics cards, you might get much better framerates in Full Screen Exclusive mode rather than Windowed Fullscreen mode. You will need to download the DBPro trial version, and open up the source code for one of the examples, play around with the Display Mode setting in the editor (Project Manager on right-hand side of screen) and see if it makes any difference.

I believe you graphics card is just crap. Spend £50 on a decent card and you will proberly see the fps tripple.

There are a lot of people here that don't have DX9 cards and get good framerates.

Dbpro games are pretty dependant on a decent card, run them on cheap machines designed as web browsers or word processors and you will see poor fps.

i won't see you in the pit

Indeed - lousy cards (especially internal ones) will always produce lousy results.
Whilst the card doesn't have to be DX9.1 compliant, it does have to be installed. It is also always best to make sure you have the latest graphics drivers too.

yes this is true. but there is no reason for the horibly slow fps i get.

gta vice city - 89 fps
quake3 - 106 fps
dbp making simple sqaures - 16 fps

there is no need for dbp to be such a graphics whore. what im saying is if im making a game that doesnt look like it should need the latest $500 card then it really shouldnt. ive been trying out the blitz3d demo and i get over 200 fps.

so it seems that even for an integrated card its just the poorly optimized DX engine that dbp uses.

BTW im not biased against eather DBP or B3D. the second i get a better card im coming back here and throwing my B3D out the window.. cuz it doesnt even have a proper manual.

Chitocbo, I don't have Vice City; but I have Quake3...
1024x768x32 Full Graphics : P3-600MHz / GeforceFX 5200 / 256MB - 178fps

hell I can run it with FSAA 8x at that res and still get a respectable 45fps, as the game runs at 25fps anything above it is just filler.
the cards are a little horrible, and yes DBP does not like om-board cards even slightly. It's because of the Shared Ram, it has a problem with it; which is why Laptop's can often have slowdowns as well.

DBP still has alot of room for improvement.

@chitocobo

Did you try my suggestion about Windowed Fullscreen vs. Fullscreen Exclusive. On my laptop (Radeon 7000) on some demos, I can get 3 to 4 times the framerate in FSEX mode.
