I have my game structure, story characters and so on but...I need to know if my game should be 2d or 3d. I can do 3d graphics 2d too.
But i read so many collision problems with 3d. And in 2d using a mapping program its pretty easy once you learn the prog. Both map designers i have can be used in dbp(Im using that one). I also have the tutorials on coding and some 2d rpg experience in verge. ANy advice...please

collision is best handled by Nuclear Glory Plugin
Also, we have a general purpose plugin for dbp at our site

2D vs 3D ... whatever floats your boat. Don't buy into the 'everything must be 3d' marlarky either

Can you believe that I *still* don't have a copy of the NG collision plug-in? I've not needed it so far ...

ok here is a sprite that I made. For my game. Its an online multiplayer rpg ...I was going to do 3d but it got too hard so I changed to 2D. I can do 3d if you saw the character kit posts.
It's just the programming thats a bit of a prob but I'm willing to learn.
Also can you tell me how many polygons I should have within my game scene at one time for it to be quick. I was thinking maybe 10 000.That would swing me back to 3D. Umm...i'll do a lower poly model and post it when its done texture and all.
I was working on a low poly character kit. I still have the files.
I need advice pleeeaaaase. I'm notsure 2d or 3d? Please help!

and I don't really care what floats my boat...I only care about what would be best for my future...I'll work hard if required...I'll go from 8 to 15 hours a day. How's that

well I think most gamers would prefer 3d, not to say that there is anything wrong with 2d, it's just that, well, life is 3d, so games that are 3d are more like real life?

that doesn't sound right

(don't listen to me...it's 9am and I have been up since 5:30am)

2D games are still very good if done right. Look at D U O (In the newsletter).

I think i'm going to 3d, It'll be hard but maybe I can code it like a 2d game....that was the idea up front. Thanks for the help. it'll be a 2d 3d game the best of both worlds...I know more or less what to do thanks.

Dont forgot that there still are gamers that dont have those Ultra mean High-End machines, but have a p2 with a voodoo card

They will really appreciate a fast 2D game. I even play html/text-based games myself (darkgalaxy, cybots and omerta).

It's true that most gamers prefer 3D, but an good-looking 2D game will always be their choice if your 3D skills are not good enough.

go 2d...
1) If done right it can really add to the game
2) Easyer way to learn to code [IMHO]
3) It gives it that nice little retro feel

But basicly it all comes down to personal taste and what you think you can handle for coding...

ok I'm going 2d but what do you think about me wrapping my maps and sprite around or onto 3d object primitives...

*this would give them a bump map ability where supported,

*it would give a light mapping ability where supported,
it would be easier to import into dbp cause i was trying to import mappy and its super hard...where as a 3d map is a couple of commands

*also the 3d will be super low polygon about 50 to a 100 thats not too bad then 2d fans will be happy for speed and 3d fans will be happy for visuals. Also theres no tile code. you can use objects as indicators or mutators or catalysts.

what do you think...straight 2d or the above idea. Thanks for all the help so far...I think this will be the decider...I was also thinking of using super low poly models from a 2d perspective, to make animation easier..they would be about 50 to 100 polygons (weapons included that would solve alot of problems and time don't you think).

Anyway...thanks again...I really appreciate it alot.
