I made an object with some animated vertices in 3dsMax. I then exported it to an .x file using panda exporter but the model doesn't load in dbpro. It only loads the object if I don't export the animation other wise it just exits without warning. Are there any rules to making animated .x files with vertex animation?

Take care

I've seen four or five Panda related threads search them out. That exporter seems to be kicking people in the teeth when not set up properly.

I have searched the forums. None of the post were very helpfull. I tried exporting as text, binary, etc. It always exports and loads correctly except when "include animation" is turned on

-EDIT-

Hmm, for some reason I am now able to export the object with animation turned on. That's a start but the object only plays animation of position and rotation of main objects the animation of the vertices of the objects doesn't play. I'll keep trying until it does but if anyone has a suggestion I'm open to it.

-EDIT-

OK, for DBPro to load an object with animations it has to have more then 2 animation keys, as far as I could undestand. It seems to me to be impossible to export the vertex animations :-s Hard as I try, I can't do it. So the question that poses now is what software can I use to animate an object on the vertex level and will it work on DBPro?

Take care

Hi AtomR,
I'm afraid .X doesn't support vertex animation, only skeletal animation, or hierachial animation. If theres no other way to animate your model I suggest you think about a format that supports morph target animation such as MD2 or MD3 format.
A simple way to implement these is to download the Quake2 or Quake3 SDK and use the software they provide. You can export each frame of animation as a seperate 3ds file, and then use the tool to compile them into the model file.
Alternatively, the pop&fresh plugin for Max works well for MD3 models, whereas Qtip makes a reasonable job with MD2 models.
Go to [href]www.polycount.com[/href] for more info

There may be some issues with Panda and DBpro anyway, I'll ask Lee and get some information for you all.

I've seen some ultra bulky animation exported to .X from programs like Hash Animation Master (a spline modeller). I figured that was vert animation since the exporter was dumping truckloads of vert data.

you can always use CharacterFX to do bone animation...

Go Go Gadget DBPRO!

I'm doing a plain with animated waves. I don't see how I could do waves with bones. Is it possible? I'm going to try exporting the plain to .md3 and load it in dbpro.

Take care
