I have just bought the DarkMATTER CD (DM1, because i am going to use the IrrLicht engine in my game, and i am not sure if it supports the .x format of DM2). It would be cool if you had access to the download edition while waiting for the CD to arrive... have you guys at TGC considered doing this?

This has come up before, but there are no real plans to change the way it works at the moment. There is a DM1 Electronic version if you don't want to wait for the CD, but if you can wait, you get the extras that the CD version contains.

Cheers,

Rich

Jedive, here's a piece of text I found on the irrlicht site:

Quote: "
Jan-Mar 2004: Development of 0.5, 0.6 and 0.7
Here are some shots of new features of the development version of upcoming Irrlicht 0.5: The .x file loader, new GUI features, the improved .bsp file renderer, new material types, fog.

Thanks Rich. I bought the CD because I think that it contains more interesting stuff. I'll wait for it to arrive then. How much does it usually take to ship?

@Emperor Baal: The .x file loader of IrrLicht only sucessfully load a bunch of .X files, so i have purchased DM1 mainly because i know that .3ds support is pretty good in IrrLicht currently. I would purchase DM2 if i were able to import the models in MilkShape and save as .ms3d, which is perfectly supported by IrrLicht too, but i have heard that the license does not allow to change the format of the models. But it is strange, because in the DM FAQ, it says "Although you can still purchase DarkMATTER 2 you will find that the models will not load into DarkBASIC without prior alteration in a 3D package such as 3D Canvas Pro, Milkshape or gameSpace", so it is suggesting to manually edit the models in a modeller package... so it means i can modify them as long as the extension is an .x file?

The models in DarkMatter 2 will work in DarkBasic. Dark Basic meaning the classic version. They say they may need alteration because the animation support in DBC differs from that of DBP. The models should work fine, but the animations may not work though.

Dark Matter 2 will work perfectly with Dark Basic Professional(animations included).

Hope that clears it up for you.
