Heya. I played with DBPro trial then bought DBPro full and patched.

Learnt how to load .bmp's, fade in and out objects, fade text in and out, and load and play sounds. ive RTFM's (the 2 that came with DBPro) and gone through the forums.

Though many people have done many projects simular to what im trying to accomplish all of the snippers ive viewed have what im after but with extra functionallity added and I struggle to determin just what bits of code in all of these snippets pertain to what I need specifically.

Im trying to fade in a 1024x768 .bmp then a .wav then text (an intro), fade that text out then fade in a presentation and fade that out then fade in credits.

I can accomplish all of these feats ? But just not all together and in that order.

Any help would please be greatly appreciated.

Feel free to contact me at cics@videotron.ca

X51-A) lock your little brother and the cat in the closet before you try to run a program after doing a lot of editing and not checking to see how it works! Boord it up if you have to, their lives are worth it, well the cats anyway.

X51-B)The other aproach is only change the program a little bit before you try running it, this will help keep you from getting overlaping errors that will confuse the sanity right out of you!

Your a genious man.I haven't been programming in a while and I just remembered why I quit.Too much code=too many problems.Always test your program frequently.

52. Remember, in this house, Rich is the Boss.

53. Mods here are nice & helpful in a way they can, and equally tolerant to some of the frustrated newbies.

54. Recognized some of the bigs boys here (including Mods): PneuDryII, VanB, Dazzag, Kentaree, Raven, Simple, Raps, Quoth, etc etc etc etc (too many of em, and most of em had became Mods). Get to know these ppl, and make full use of their expertise.

55. Never, i repeat NEVER, get in the line of fire in a 'Raven vs Simple flame festival topic.' How can u recognized this one? Well, if u see lots of their names repeating one after another in a single topic, thats ur cue! U can post ur opinions, just dun take it too personally, it may just hurt urself. My early warning to newbies.

56. Make sure u LOL whenever Solidz post something when he's drunk & giddy! lol! Come on, LOL!

Start off small and go bigger and bigger, even if you have a huge idea. Do little parts at a time. Example, I had a plane game thing so to start I made it so you could only go one way, then al around you , then up and down etc. Don't go straight to "up and down:

Rewrite your code once and a while. Get rid of the stuff that slows it down and organise it alittle bit. You'll be glad you did!

Though im a DarkBasic n00b, ive got experience from other programs(ex: RPG Maker 2000...) and a rule ive establish for myself is this;
Have a crap load of substance in your game! what i mean is that your game could have the best graphics ever produced, but your game will be utter crap, because the AI is poor, the story line has no direction, etc... so to say it short...really REALLY REALLY think your game out. and remember, a GREAT computer game NEVER starts with a computer...it starts with a paper and pencil!!!!

Please don't post on the Beta Announcements board a detailed description of the brilliant game you have just started - along with a pretty menu screen. Anyone can knock one together with PSP or Photoshop in five minutes these days - and it means nothing.

A menu screen and an idea isn't a game. Screenshots of your game shows us what you are working on!

PRECISELY tdk. I remember when I was new to programming I would always post screenshots of the main menu. NEVER start with the main menu, it pretty much guarantees you to fail...

you'll find yourself wasting hours just sitting there staring at your pretty main menu and not have a single part of your game started
