um, those took place in the same time period.
anyways, it depends if you are going realistic or not. if you are going the fantasy action-hero route, double pistols are always fun like phaelax said, and rocket launchers and grenade throwers are fun too (although they are real, the average person, especially civilian, would not have them). hm, ya know what, here's a list of different kinds of guns, not too specific but enough to get you thinking hopefully.
Handguns:
-
Single action revolvers-generally six or five shots, hammer must be cocked before every shot
-
Double action revolvers-same as above except the hammer can either be cocked or not, the disadvantage to firing double action (w/o cocking the hammer) is the trigger pull is usually longer and heavier, it throws aim off.
-
Single shot-not very common, most are either old powder guns or converted from rifles. one shot loaded usually into the breach, fired, repeat.
-
semi-automatic-i already described what a semi-automatic is, so this is just a handgun that is semi-automatic. feeds from a removable magazine.
-
machine pistol-fully auto, i.e. uzi's, etc.
Rifles and Carbines:
ok, the difference between a rifle and carbine is that a carbine is more compact and generally has a shorter barrel, but they are so similar i will group them in one category.
-
single shot-same as with the handgun, but more common, generally load from breach or directly into action failing the presence of a proper breach.
-
lever action-repeating firearm, a lever generally under the forearm or stock is cocked to chamber the next round.
-
bolt action-can be either one shot or multiple, bolt is rotated up and pulled back, then returned to position to chamber next round or to chamber the single round.
-
pump action-generally repeaters, a slide on the bottom side of the gun is "pumped" up and down once to chamber a round.
-
semi-auto-some are fed from a fixed clip inside the stock, where the bullets are fed from the top of the action, others are fed from a removable magazine, similar to a semi-auto pistol magazine.
-
sub-machine gun-these are not full machine guns, they are fully auto but are small enough to be easily carried as personal weapons.
Shotguns:
-
pump-action-similar to above, but a shotgun
-
break-action-the barrel or barrels hinge downward from the stock, allowing the shell or shells to be loaded directly into the barrel(s). double-shot break-actions usually have two triggers, one for each barrel.
-
semi-auto-shells loaded from beneath action
Machine Guns:
these are large caliber guns generally mounted on vehicles or fired from prone, some require multiple teams to operate efficiently(one pulls the trigger, another loads, another cools the barrel (at least on the older ones, newer models are water-cooled or some other form of cooling the gun)).
i think that's it, well at least all i can think of now. hope it helps. I love talking weapons, lol.
oh, wow. insignificantpunks.cjb.net. we like orange treble clef notes, just for future reference.
