I'm creating a wizardry style RPG that requires a lot of character information and item information. One problem I had was typing in all the data statements and not losing track of which number belonged to what category etc.

Anyway, I found that by using MS Access and creating a database made it simple. I just simply copy the data from Access and paste onto my program. I have no trouble keeping track of it all now.

indi hits a bushwhacker with his anointed flail and does 15 points of damage.

Man wizardry and bards tale and a slew of text based games was my first real obsession with the computer.

Oh how I waisted tonnes of time playing those games.

I use a spreadsheet to manage my combat system so we are doing similar things.

That's a good idea, I'll probably try to use Excel on mine.

I found it invaluable for the combat system.

Adding algorythyms to cells allows to me to test the whole combat experience without waisting time in DB or DBP

It does save time especially when your program starts to grow, with a longer to runtime. With excel, the formulas execute on the spot.. no compiling needed.
