Hey

I already posted this in the gamespace forums on their website but I thought I would post it here as well just incase anybody has any ideas.

I am a new user to GameSpace from 3D Canvas Pro 6.5 and am having a problem constructing the hierarchy that I want for a simple test object.

My problem is as follows:

Here is what I am trying to achieve:

I am trying to create a test scene for export to .x format for use in DB PRO.

The test scene consists of two objects which are basically a cube that forms the base of the cannon and a sphere with a cylinder binary added to it to form a kind of turret and barrel.

I want to place the turret on top of the base and make it a child of the base so that when the base moves the turret will too but I can move the turret on its own.

Here is what I have done to try and achieve this:

I have created both objects and positioned them in the scene where I want them both in relation of the world coords and also relative to each other. Now I have the turret on top of the cube with everything facing in the right directions.

I have selected the turret object and then selected to use the glue as child tool. The mouse changed to a dropper as expected and then I selected the base object. This seemed a logical sequence of events given that I want the turret to be the child of the base.

The objects got grouped and this is where the confusion starts...

In the scene editor they are indeed now grouped and I renamed the group in the hierarchy “cannon however...

Both objects are shown as being on the same level which would suggest to me that they have been glued as siblings and not a parent child relationship. I thought at first that I had used the wrong tool so I went back and did it again but I am certain that I used the right tool.

Here is the relevant bit of the hierarchy:

+ Cannon
---Base
---Turret

And here is what I want to get:

+ Cannon
---Base
--- + TurretGroup
-------- Turret

When I export the object to .x and export to dark basic pro the object loads fine and reads as having 4 limbs.

Limb 0 effects the entire object as does limb 1

Limb 2 effects just the base

Limb 3 effects just the turret

This suggests to me that they have in fact been grouped as siblings and not as a parent child relationship because if they where parent/child then surely rotating limb 2 that effects the base should also effect its children and thus the turret.

Does anybody have any idea what is happening here. I have reloaded and redone this 8 times now and I know for a fact that I am using the right tool.

Any help is greatly appreciated as this is going to be a hell of a pain in the butt if I can’t get it sorted.

Cheers

Fred
