Hi,
I'm Jeroen de Cloe, 4th grade EMMA Gaming student. I'm researching 'addiction' and 'addictive gameplay' for my thesis, and I'd like to know about your experiences with addiction.

This survey will help me understand how you think of 'game addiction' in general, and your experience with this phenomenon. Every submission will be received and treated anonymously This will only take a few minutes of your time, thank you!

I consider it addiction when you play the game "seriously," like focusing on being better than everyone else at it. Like, starting to turn down the game's visuals so you can improve the game's performance and help you improve your game (ie. turning off lightmapping and switching to vertex mode so you can see enemies clearly even in the dark )

If a game is good enough to make you think about startegies/tactics/how to get to the next level when you aren't even playing the game then i'd say it was addictive. I rememeber some games i'd go to sleep thinking of how to play them.

I was addicted to Team Fortress when I first got it, and also NFS 3.
I played so much nfs3 that when I would finally go to bed, and close my eyes, the winding track movement was etched and replayed on the inside of my eyelids blackness - if you follow

not addicted, nothing is that good as a game, but you can spend long hours trying to crack a level just because it annoys you to be stopped (games with steep learning curves have this effect on me...or I download a cheat or trainer), don`t like being stopped by something when I am on a roll, bad level design makes me drop a game, stupid levels like the current one in Farcry (end of ship level) annoy me so much, I spend ages trying to crack it, get annoyed, do something else, go back, spend ages, etc, then finaly I download a cheat or trainer just to get past that level since I have invested a lot of time already, I want to see the end of it by now.

There's no physical addiction, obviously, and any mental addiction comes from serious lack of other things to do. Games are not addictive IMO.
