I am planning on upgrading my computer to keep up with the new games (Doom 3) and to make programming games in DBPro better. I found a Video card that i am thinking about buying. Its an "Asylum Geforce FX 5200 256 MB AGP." I dont know much about video cards. Does this sound like a good card to anyone? or should i try to find something better?

P4 3.2GHZ, 256MB DDR Ram, 64MB NVidea G-Force 4, Sound Blaster Live, 40 Gig HD Thanks to Coding Area

I have a GFFX 5200 8x AGP 128, and although it's a nice card, the answer would be NO. Get a better card!

here come the "saints".
Watch out!

Paying extra money for 256mb card when its only a FX5200 is a waste of money. Only pay for 128mb cards right now, cause by the time we need to use 256mb of ram for our video cards, technology will have changed much by then. So chances are, it wont suppose the new features that require it anyway. I got a FX5900XT for $220, so just about any card right below that should be under $200.

as always, next year will have something MUCH faster, looks like AGP is gonna die and PCI express bus will rule, the next gen Nvidia cards (see link) are seriously overpowered as well (well...until we get hold of them ), as a rule of thumb...get the highest number card you can afford with 128mb of ram (eg 5200-5400-5600-5800-5900 etc), ATI cards are supposed to be good as well, you might like to look at those also, by this time next year it will be out of date anyway , just be aware that if you have a agp mobo that isn`t 8x then you will be wasting cash buying the top end cards, they need 8x to get the throughput, you will just choke them with a slower port.

I've bought my ASUS GeForce 5600/TD with 256MB DDR 8xAGP for 1.100 DKK (Danish Krones, I don't know how much this is in dollars but somewhere around 200$). It kicks ass, FarCry Max Detail 1024x768 smoothly, UT2K4 Max Detail 1024x768 smoothly, NFSU Max Detail 1024x768 smoothly, and just about any other game i've thrown on my machine has run smoothly in max detail and 1024x768 (wich is the max for my monitor )... BTW, I run CS in 250 - 350FPS
