My advice: change ur sig. Its not even done right and judging by the name of the url i sense someone trying to be sneaky and log us off hmm (u trickster )? Just get rid of it, you dont know how to set it up right and the last thing we need is ANOTHER person with that link in their sig (one is enough)

And i dont know of any editors of that kind for DBSpot.

Arrrg the RPG deja vu was bad enough. But now this. Ok, I'm nerodic but you spelt it wrong. It's supposed to mean "aready saw", your saying "already you(plural)"(Kinda ). It's déja vue. There's an accent on the "a" but I'm to lazy to type it in.

I think it's spelled (CR said so) as 'vous' because I remember the word from one of the Max Payne cutscene-comic.

No, it's not spelled spelt, it's spelled spelled. I really hate it when people use 'spelt'- I mean, since when have plural forms been abbrieviated and had a T tacked on? That's ridiculous... spelt is a grain!

Spelt?
Dealt?
Learnt?

Quote: ": I checked a few sources and found no such word as "usadge".
: Also I found no such word as "spellled".
: The irony of it all!

Although Ms. Camel seems to need help in how to stop spelling "spelling", there is, I believe, a transatlantic difference with the past tense and/or past participle of the verb "to spell". For some reason, my tendency is to opt for "spelt" - "I spelt it out for him". Similarly, I'd opt for "learnt" rather than "learned". Am I right in thinking that this is not the way you'd do it over the pond?"

Wow, english is more complex than we think. Just been reading a site on how to learn English. To Be + Conjunctions anyone? Modals + Auxiliaries?

The alternate spelling was added because it's such a popular mistake. That is how English evolves, I suppose, but I'll stick with the technicaly correct version .

Yeah, which is spelt! I think 'spelled' came afterwards, that's the way a language evolves.

Nope. I'm fairly certain spelled is the original, as I've been studying Old and Middle English for school this year (will make certain after dinner). 'Spelt' is a slurring of 'Spelled', and eventually the spelling got chopped down too. But as I said, I'll check later.

What a world we live in . You must not read many books either ?

Edit-- Surely you at least pronounce it spelled/learned?

You're right. I've extensively studied the change between the Englishes too... I think I sort of blocked that out in reference to those words 'cuz I'm so used to the -ed affix. But spelt is the original. I stand corrected!

*Goes into search/replace (spelled=spelt) mode*

Lol, no problem

I did find a "how to learn english" web site that listed all of the type 2 participles, among them were

to rid -> rid / ridded
to quit -> quit / quitted
to learn -> learnt / learned
to spoil -> spolit / spolied
to dreamt -> dreampt / dreamed

http://www.eslfocus.com/grammarfolder/irregverbgroups.html

Glad that's sorted. Now my next crusade - stop people pronouncing H "haych".
