I had all sorts of problems when I first got my Netgear DG824M ADSL modem/router/firewall thingy. It would constantly disconnect and never reconnect. It took Netgear about 5 updates before they finally got it right. In fact I even sent the thing back to dabs because Netgear and I thought it was a faulty unit. Got replacement and did same thing. I was livid! Netgear blamed BT for being a 'non-standard ISP' LOL! I'm happy now coz everything peachy.

Netgear also farm their support to India which is very hard work when trying to explain tech stuff on the phone and they haven't got a clue what you are talking about. They end of just saying stupid stuff like 'have you tried turning it off and on' or 'do a factory reset and reload software'.

Boo!

the crazy part is that this router has been fine for 2 years - as well as the isp (RR) and now suddenly people all over the place on different isp's are having the same problem - some even mentioning the 9 hour uptime from DHCP renewal bug when the crash occurs but I have been running this firmware for over three months and this just started - interestingly on the coattails of that latest worm that went around that could hit you without downloading it or whatever. Maybe someone figured out how to bring down certain routers with malformed packets - that would be sick and have huge implications!

thanks. Seems over the past two weeks it started but this happening widespread. Linksys confirmed the problem but that's about it. Hopefully they have a new firmware coming along, because malformed packest crashing routers isn't fun. Also my router crashed again this morning right at 9 hours into lease of dhcp. Weird stuff

Get a Draytek Vigor Router - very good and reliable, but rather expensive...

yeah, don't update it. I read that a bunch of people downgraded back to 1.44.2z and the problem went away.
