yes it teaches you to be safe on the net and teaches you that clicking everylink without looking at its destination can be a very stupid thiong to dooo

Well I got REALLY annoyed the other day when a certain user posted a link to a website that popped up loads of windows and then diverted to the db logout page. I was furious. There was no indication in the link it would log me out. Obviously a plain link that I can see on the screen may be a different story like said users siggy.

I could not remember which email address I used as my login and had to trawl through loads of bits of paper to find it.

I agree with indi that these links should be banned. An easy option would be for Rich to test for the URL when rendering links in his PHP and stop them appearing.

If no warning is given, the fair enough. But in this case there is a clear warning about not clicking.

That should be more than enough. It should be common practice to inspect a link before pressing it anyway. If the link is suspicious then better not press it.

Besides, his sig is kinda funny anyway.

I always try to keep the status bar visible and preview links. Perhaps some of us are more paranoid than others. [Of course, I also run a friewall, two virus scanners, and use three spy/pest detection tools from time to time.]

we all know not to step off the curb into traffic when there is a red light warning us. His link says "don't click me", when you mouse over the link the browser displays the destination. I don't think David needs to take the link off, I think users who click it need to learn to not click without knowing what they are clicking first. Not to mention you can right-click any web object and see it's properties before following the click.

red lights are warnings that are known around the globe. 'Do not, whatever you do, click this link', some users may think it's a joke and may think it actually leads to his webpage or something like that...

what are you trying to achieve with that link?

-the browser shows you where you are going to go, before you go
-you can right-click to interrogate further, before you go

and still it's no argument to keep it there, some users don't have the habbit of lookin up where a link actually links to or some don't have a statusbar because they are browsing in full-screen mode(like me)

Personally, i check EVERY link before I click it... Just a habit I got into after been given a few bad links to certain images that have given me occasional, very bad nightmares since.

And on top of that, when someone puts up a sign saying "Don't Press This Big Red Shiny Button No Matter What You Do", they are expecting some idiot to press the button just to see what happens. And it serves then right that it was the button to activate the nerve gas... We all must do our part to rid the gene pool of the scum that sinks to the bottom.

I'm not one that looks at the detination of every link before I click it. Maybe it should be habbit, but it is not. However, a link that says "DO NOT CLICK ME", gets me curious.
I didn't click-it and I did look at the destination in this case. I also thought it was funny as hell. Not only funny that it was original, but I also laughed at how funny it would have been if I would have fell for it. I could just picture myself saying... "What the...DOH!".
I also think it is funny that it is considered offesive to some people. Get over it, it is a joke. If you fell for it, then have a laugh at yourself. Maybe the people that are getting mad about it are then ones that fell for it TWICE. lol

To be honest, I fell for it-- I was thinking while clicking it, 'Why the heck would I click this'? and wasn't really surprised when the logout page loaded-- really funny though, I mean, it just shows how automatic link-clicking can grow to be
