No, Midi is purely an interface...

you need a sequencer to record MIDI songs or a Digital Sampler to record "real sounds"

do you want to record just the notes? (like a MIDI song)

or do you want to record tha actual sounds that come from your drum set (how YOU hear it?)

in the first case, you simply need to plug your Drum Kit via MIDI to your computer and use a program to sequence the song...

in the other case, you need to hook a MIcrophone to your computer OR connect a cable from the output of the drums to your computer's sound in. Windows has a built in recorder that should work, but you might want to by a seperate program for the Digital Recording.

go to cicuit city, wander around for awhile, find some midicables, plug them in.

Well, there are lots of midi songs on the net for free. They are going to sound a bit wierd through a drum though I think. You need a special cable to link your computer to the drum pad. There are a few free midi music creators on the net. Although midi sounds poor through a computer, it can actually sound like a CD when played through a good instrument.

Drum pad's audio out > audio card's line in(not the Mic In because that is mono. Line In is stereo) > software recorder. If your audio card doesn't have a Line In then well...get a better audio card lol

If it has MIDI cables, use those rather than Line IN. The MIDI cable should connect to your computer's joystick port. That's what I do with my electronic keyboard.

If I'm not mistaken, he's wanting to record the sound comming from the drumpad, not control sounds on the computer. For that you use the Line-In.

absotively

connecting via midi cable makes it a controller, or gets controlled.

technically you can do both. But, it all comes down to how you want to use it or what you want the end result to be, Z interactive.

If your drum kit produces good sound by itself, you could use your computer as a Digital recorder; in which case you would use LINE IN.

PROS: Sound quality and expression are great.
CONS: you cannot easily change your recordings once you record it. Requires plenty of RAM for long songs

if you want to use your drum kit as a sequencer, you want to go MIDI.

PROS: Small file sizes; can use it with other MIDI music and play along with your favorite songs
CONS: Sound quality is lacking unless you have a good sound card.

Or you can use it as a controller for high quality sample-libraries such as Drumkit From Hell. This is probably the best option for realistic drums.

unless of couse you drum kit has good sounds built in anyways...

even if it dosent you should probrably connect it both ways, with a MIDI cable and through your computer LINE IN.

would give you more options.
