i just got dbc and want to know what the best way to get started programming.

check out the example programs that come with dark basic classic, both on the user manual (cave run) and in the dark basic folder (iced demo, tank, room etc). try and understand what specific parts of the code does, if in doubt then modify stuff and observe the effect it makes to the game when you run it (back-up files before doing so )

when your feeling confident enough then try and make a simple game of your own! you don't have to start with pong... you can be more adventurous but keep things simple for now.

thnx for the advice. i have started my first project. it's not a game, but rather a gallery of illusions. i was wondering if anyone could offer any suggestions...
