I use 3d amapi to model my objects to 3ds but the only problem is that amapi doesn't store textures atall and i don't like texturing in 3d canvas and i have very little money to fork out on other packages, does anyone know an affordable package that will allow me to texture my models for 3ds or x. Or just give me hints on texturing in 3d canvas.

Lithunwrap is the best for texturing. The old version is available on some peoples sites, but you will have to find it. If you can't find it, I will Email it to you.

I can recomend you LithUnwrap too ...its bit dificult to learn controls, but once you get it, its preaty simple to UV your model and apply texture. ..You can download it on mine site.

But to paint texture you need something else ..like Phothoshop ...there are some free painting tools out there too.
