OK, im gonna get a router+firewall soon and wondered what i shud get

i wana get wired.

thats it
thats all i know

anyknow know any decent trademarks of routers.
loads in google dunno where to start
so list of reputable router companies and specific routers if you can

in the old days i would have said get a cisco router since thats basically the birthhome for routers, I dont mind netgear products they are pretty good in todays standards tho.

Is this for sharing an ADSL connection? Do you currently have an ADSL modem?

MUCH easier to get an all-in-one box unit that contains the modem/router/firewall, maybe even wireless while you are at it. Only around £100 for 54G model

I personally have a netgear one which now works great, although teething problems hacked me off a bit.

You cant beat a Draytek router - the basic one comes with a printer server as well.
Its also got network seperation and speed limiters too.

Me and my dad chose a Belkin wireless over a netgear because all Belkins products have a lifetime warranty, compared to 3 years with the netgear. Never had any problems.

I like/use Linksys, but thats just me.... I got the wireless router, I need to be wired anywhere in my house... with all these laptops and desktops I got....

I have had some really bad experiences with netgear routers. Linksys and belkin are what i reccomend.

I have a DrayTek Vigor 2600WE, which is very usefull It acts as a modem for my ADSL, Supports 4 computers via cable, includes a firewall *and* It also supports wireless networking! I would deffinetly recommend it.

Indeed it is Though I'm told I sign in and out of messenger when Im in bed because of disconnecting and connecting to internet, but I think thats to do with my ADSL cable and spliters when I get time I'll sort it out.
