Hi I'm working on a fantasy/rpg model pack at the moment..basically a male and female hero, a dwarf and a wizard

anyway heres what I have so far, still works in progress and the female is almost done as well (update later)...

They are modelled in Cinema 4D and will be UV'd in Unwrap3d, skinned in PS and animated in Character fx

yeah he has solid hands really, I was gonna use textures but now I think a few extra polys could be put into some "proper" seperate fingers!!

Thanks for your comments

Solid work there but I would say there are more polygoons then declared.

Psionic you've finally signed up, eh?
Well i'm going to look forward to seeing these textured as i know you have alot more skill pixel pushing;

from the polycounts i'd say that Cinema4D is adding quite a few polygons hidden; but i'm sure nothing a little optimising couldn't fixx.
with you here, does this mean i'm actually going to have to start showing work off again just to keep up?

this area should be more interesting to checkout again atleast; enjoy your stay mate.

Theres certainly a fair bit of optimzing to do

I've been a member for a while but just started a collaboration on a game with someone using DBPro so I figured I better read up on problems/solutions/tips etc to do with using DBP...

Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to seeing your work too!

Well those models looks great but I have just one problem with them
don't you think that there are too many tri's?
I mean the soldier pack is also good but 2300 per model is just too
much in my opinion at least. I think that a character should be up
to 1500 tri's for example look at the darkMatter models
the GI soldier is only 938 tri's
the knight is only 792 tri's
and the list goes on and on.
Don't get my wrong I think the models are great
but they have just too many tri's.

I think the polygon counts are reasonable, could be lower, but I have no problem as long as they stay under 2500. CPU specs are rapidly going up, so we need to aim for the future and build things to really push the system.

Of course, these are RPG characters, so a few things can happen. If they're used in turn-based combat, there shouldn't be a problem with having 4-6 on screen running animations. However, if it'll be a real-time game, you might have to hold back a little.

Real nice models Psionic, and it's great to see you around here after visiting your website so often.

You do have a point but remember we use DarkBasic\BlitzBasic
both are slower then C++ and less flexible so we need to make sure
that our games\software will run as fast as possible.

RPG generally have less enemies onscreen at once; meaning you can usually let more loose with polycounts.
And actually nowadays actual polygons being pushed per second aren't really important, it's the pixel complexity and vertices a model has... as less is about pure texturing and triangle pushing and more is about how complex the shaders and multi-textureing is.

Even more so as another major role of models nowadays is the physics; so where Triangles are important in World Development as this = the complexity of the physics bounderies, for models it is the amount of vertices that must be processed per second by the skeleton and lighting.

Unless you want me to go into a whole whitepaper length lecture about it, i'd say don't fret it unless what you see if 10,000 Triangle+

Nice start Psionic. Just the face skin makes the dwarf look twice the polygon count.
