Got my new Civic Coupe on tuesday (well, actually it's an n reg ('95) but with 33,000 miles it might as well be new). Been wiring up my old stereo and upgrading. Anyone else into car stereos here?

I'm waiting on my new headunit, which should arrive today sometime, and I've just ordered some JL coax speakers for the back. The front components will have to wait till I have some more money. It's expensive stuff this.

My setup is:
New Kenwood KDCW6527 head unit (4x50RMS), plenty of bells and whistles, full 8 colour 120x25 display.

My old Directed 500d - 600RMS (1400Watt) 4 channel amp.

Two channels bridged into my newish Maystar QXS12VI (600Watt) 12" Sub

Inside a Classic Acoustics custom box, ported with Vibe port tube:

Other two amp channels running into remounted 6" JL-VR600CX coax speakers - outboard unknown RMS rating (they can take a hell of a lot of input), just ordered these so waiting for them to arrive:

Set me back another £360 to get the coax speakers and new headunit (last one got nicked and my old 7x10 Pioneers are a bit too old skool now) so now I'm broke, until I start my new job. Anyway, should be a plush system.

I know it might be reaching a bit seeing as most people here aren't old enough to drive, and there's not many computer programmers into car modding and car stereos but anyone else got a decent sound system? Hit me up with the stats!

lmao, your speakers cost 2x more than my car did;
as you can imagine last thing i wanna do is spend out on a decent sound system. all i've done is ripped some technics speakers from an old sound system i had (think it was from '93 but still not too shabby 140watt speakers) ... but thats about all the modding i've done so far.

i wanna sort out an amp and creative audigy2 system as it can export some very nice quadrophonic sound; see if i can't rig it to a pda with Windows on it and use that on the dash to control everything, probably hook up some MP3 ramdrive to it.

atleast then i can still keep my old rover stereo on show which no one will wanna steal

oh dear! not one of those noisy sods you hear coming from miles away (thud thud thud thud thud thud THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD) , where do you get that CD from? (the one that goes THUD THUD THUD indefinitly), any idea what group did it, I looked in Woolworths music section but I couldn`t see a disk titled THUD THUD THUD, so I guess it`s under some other name.

Yeah, I believe thud thud thud was so widely hated by pretty much everybody who wasn't directly involved in it, that it was discontinued.

However, I am a warbler. Probably as annoying as a thud thud thudder, but at least offering variety. Instead of the thud thud of floor to the floor, you will be treated to the rolling pitch changes and longer and shorter notes of drum'n'bass. Best described as bwaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww wwwahh wahhh wahahahaha waaaaaaaaaaaahh bwwwahahaha boo bah bah bwwwaaaahaha wowowowwooooowwwwWOOOWWw. Probably much like an ambulance breaking down.

But on a serious note, I personally find it embaressing to have people look at my while I'm driving with loud music. I'm too old to rude it round the streets. I turn it down in the city centre and pretty much off at night in residential areas. On the motorway though, I play it till I bleed!!!!

@HZence, I'm glad I put a image warning on the post with you posting a big bastard picture like that!!

@Raven, yeah, if you can set up some funky stuff for cheap, it's always a good option. Depends what you want to do with your money. Now personally, I'd rather not spend hundreds on car stereos, but, and I'll try and make this make sense ... I'd rather spend it on a decent stereo than anything else .... at the moment. Basically, I'll be commuting for 2 hours a day for the next 12 months, so I've got myself a decent car to drive, and now I'm making the trip enjoyable with a decent stereo.

On a side note, loud stereos do help quash that clubbing sort of desire. I then save money on alcohol, cigarettes, door entry, and greatly reduce my chances of being stabbed. How cool is that?

LOL thanks for taking that the right way, I did wonder if I might get flamed but I thought it funny(ish), in my youth we had the bwaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww wwwahh wahhh wahahahaha waaaaaaaaaaaahh bwwwahahaha boo bah bah bwwwaaaahaha wowowowwooooowwwwWOOOWWw recording on tapes, performed by a certain Kate Bush , glad to see she`s still popular

nice stereo man. i just use one of those tape things hooked up to a personal cd player. my speakers are real nice though (don't know what they are, they were my dads, well the whole truck was, lol). they're real rich and in the small cab of a truck they sound great. personally, i'm much more of a thudthudthudthud (real fast) with grooowwwwl every once in a while, lol. but my truck seals real well, so it's not that audible outside of it (i know, i've stood outside it while the stereo was way up). heh, it seals so well that when someone slams the door if the other one isn't open or a window isn't open your ears sometimes pop. i should find a pic, it's big and has a flatbed

oh, wow. insignificantpunks.cjb.net.

It was funny. I particularly liked your use of lowercase, to uppercase, to bold characters to simulate the volume. However, I'm a bit disappointed to find you've copied and pasted my "bwaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww wwwahh wahhh wahahahaha waaaaaaaaaaaahh bwwwahahaha boo bah bah bwwwaaaahaha wowowowwooooowwwwWOOOWWw" and before you tell me I've just done the same thing, I'll remind you I own the copyright!

I got my audigy 2 computer running through a 70's Sansui 240w reciever. I love old analog technology, raw power!

Nice amp, but personally i hate the car. cant stand civics and all those rice burners. Do me a favor would ya? If you ever to decide to "upgrade" the car, put the money into engine upgrades, not ground effects and loud obnoxious lawn mower sounding exhaust. I'll stick to my 2000 gtp.

I've got a minidisc player up front of me Impreza, and a 10 disc MP3 player hooked in from the boot. Not bad. Is a bit old now, but I like it.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

yeah i know what ya mean Fallout; personally i prefer to listen to my music in quality rather than volume.
some music is nice blasting out of the speakers, but i majoritively listen to stuff like 3 Doors Down, Bare Naked Ladies, Greenday and Evanescence...

so i mean it's stuff that you don't turn up load just to hear the beat; sides a properly setup Surround Sound system sounds much louder than it actually is. Meaning i don't go deaf young and i don't get strange looks when at traffic lights from motorists next to me.

also can't stand those cars people do up to the hilt just to be louder, i mean what point does it serve to let someone know 2miles away that your pulling up to your house in what is under all that body work just a 1991 Fiesta?
I mean if it were something like a Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin; then you'd want it to be a kinda 'hey, lookit what i have loosers!' but they're not. Hell most of them don't even amp up the engine from thier standard 1.1/1.4 to something with a bit more kick like a 2.0 v8 ... so it's all superficial.

i have a habit or altering my cars Injection systems; doesn't give me any more speed, but it's usually the difference between 0-60 in 10s to 0-60 in 4.5s ^_^

there is a guy down the road from me that is famous for his car modding, he got himself a new Honda CBR 900FR ... beautiful bikes, without a doubt one of the best road production bikes there is (imo); but the guy is like 20stone, so if it wasn't bad enough that the bike can only seem to carry 1/3 of his body; he also altered the muffler like he does with all of his damn escorts and now you hear it growling as it comes back.

only when it reaches low speeds you hear it's engine finally calm down to it's usual purr,
wish i could understand why people do it.
